Sustainable fashion

Outfit made with reclaimed materials

Make do and mend

As part of the Unit One Product Design Fibre, students are required to analyse and redesign an existing product to improve its aesthetic, function and sustainability. The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry after oil, millions of unwanted clothes and textile items are damped in landfills everyday. Adopting the concept of ‘make do and mend’ from the 1940s, our students have worked collaboratively on designing and creating couture out of obsolete uniforms, aiming to promote environmental sustainability within the school community.

Students were very creative with the materials and some of the designs were inspired by the natural environment and wild life. These runway piece will be displayed in B Block later this semester.
