Funeral

The funeral for Rhys Gillard takes place tomorrow (Thursday) at the College. All families were sent a letter in regard to students on both campuses finishing classes at 12 Noon. Students and families who wish to attend the funeral are welcome to do so. We have made arrangements to be within the COVID guidelines around spacing and have venues other than the Sports Centre available should there be an overflow beyond the permitted COVID numbers in that Centre.

We are proud to host Rhys’s funeral and to honour him and the family in this way. Thank you to the many families who have expressed their condolences and offered practical support.

ACC Service Awards

The Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC) recognises outstanding and long serving commitment through the ACC Service Awards. These are the highest level awards given to staff who have committed to their chosen field within the ACC over many years. These fields include Music, the Arts, Sport, Technology and Public Speaking.

On Thursday 6 May, the conferring of these awards took place at Mazenod College in a formal ceremony.

St Bede’s College had the highest number of people who received awards, a testimony to the support given to our students by so many of our staff over the years.

Congratulations to the following staff  who received an ACC Service Award:

Mr Mark Comas

Mr Shane Heatley

Ms Rachel Matthews

Mr Walter Saluni

Mr Neil Hambly

Mr Luke Borella

Ms Lis Burn

Ms Mel Lyons

Mr Damon Jacobs

Mr Sam Radford

Thank you all for your outstanding contributions. Our Bentleigh East Campus staff now have the opportunity to also offer their expertise within the ACC and will, no doubt, make an equally telling contribution.

Autumn Winter Concert

This was the first full, live music concert that the College has held since 2019. It was wonderful to have our young musicians and singers perform for us. We have been able to maintain very healthy numbers in our music and vocal programs, despite the obvious impact of COVID last year.

Well done to all of our young men and the very talented music staff who mentor their progress.

Open Mornings

The Mentone and Bentleigh East Campus offer Open Mornings during second term. The Mentone version took place last week with very high numbers in attendance. We are expecting similarly strong numbers for the upcoming Open Morning at Bentleigh East.

Interest in the College is high. We do not commercially advertise as many schools do; our community spreads the message by “word of mouth” and commendation. Thank you to all families for this level of support as we strive to give every young man the best possible experience and present him with viable, healthy pathways into adulthood.

Board Meeting

The first ever Bentleigh East meeting of the St Bede’s College Board took place recently. This was an opportunity for Board members to be shown the campus facilities and to hear a little more of the history and fabric of this part of our College.

COVID Changes

All families will have received notification of the changes now mandated around the wearing of masks indoors, including classrooms and other internal school spaces. We will always endeavour to contact you as quickly as possible should any requirements around COVID change.
