I write this piece with an enormous sense of gratitude for the parent, and indeed wider community at GWPS. The way that Education Week was supported was truly appreciated by all the staff at GWPS.
As mentioned at Monday’s special assembly, Education Week is the chance to reflect and show thanks for the opportunity our children have experience a world class education on a daily basis.
Whilst the United Nations regards education as ‘a human right for all throughout life and that access must be matched by quality’, we know that this is not the case. In many places around the world, not every child has the opportunity to enter the classroom, little lone receive a quality education. This includes Australia, which has enormous gaps in education opportunities for the Indigenous population.
This is a powerful concept to understand when consider what it means to have the chance to come to school each day. When we stop and think for a moment, there is an amazing amount that the school does to provide a well-rounded education in all aspects of the curriculum, this includes:
All of these programs help to deliver the children of GWPS a broad range of skills that they need to be productive citizens of the world. One day, we hope that the children of today who receive an education, will perhaps have the opportunity to bridge the gap, and help others around the world to have access to the opportunities that they deserve.
