Dear Members of the Glen Waverley Primary School Community,
I trust all is well with you and your family and welcome to this fortnight’s newsletter where so much is shared about our fabulous school.
As per usual, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on
9802 9938 or via email at frank.catalano@education.vic.gov.au
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, the Coronavirus pandemic continues to be a major challenge for a number of countries in which some of our school families are affiliated with. On behalf of our school community may I take this opportunity to express that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Once again, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Lewis or myself if you think that your child would benefit from speaking with one of the Department’s social workers as it is extremely important that the children are supported and monitored through such difficult and highly emotive times.
What a fantastic week we have had at our school as we acknowledge and showcased the amazing teaching and learning occurring. A sincere thank you to the students who have presented and shared their learning this week and also the members of our school community who were able to attend Monday's special assembly, the Open Morning and/or Night. I cannot express how proud I am of our school whilst acknowledging the wonderful efforts of the staff, students and parents as we all work together to make our school the best that it can be!
I trust you have enjoyed the ‘celebration of learning’ just as much as we have!
By the time this newsletter is released, this year’s swimming programs will be a distant memory. May I once again, take the opportunity to thank the numerous families who have supported this year’s swimming programs as overall they have been an enormous success.
It was a sheer delight to provide world-renowned public speaker and ‘parenting expert’ Michael Grose as a key component of this year’s School Community Information Sessions. Michael’s presentations were not only extremely informative and affirming but also delivered in a manner in which the audience was able to connect to.
Below is an overview of the remaining School Community Education sessions for this year, may I encourage you to peruse these and diarise the ones that are of interest to you.
Recently a number of the children have asked whether our school could introduce a ‘school uniform’ beanie, I am really pleased to announce that School Council have approved this and plain navy blue beanies are available at the uniform shop at a cost of approximately $7.
Below is a photograph of Anya and Pavirna proudly modelling our new school beanies.
Congratulations to our Junior Chess Team who finished 3rd out of 16 schools in a recent tournament – in fact just 1 point behind the school that finished 2nd! What is also fantastic is that the children have qualified for the “Junior Primary State finals” which will be held in Term 4.
Our school’s Junior Chess Team consists of:
Year Prep: Navin
Year 1: Amaya and Saheli
Year 2: Evan
Year 3: Thenugi and Adithi
Also congratulations to the following children as they received an individual medal:
Naturally this would not be possible if it were not for the support of the children’s parents, a very special thank you to all as it is appreciated immensely! Well done and congratulations everyone!!
