School Council

Mackellar Primary School Council 2021

School councils are a very important part of all Victorian government schools as they provide a governance structure whereby DET staff and parents from schools can work together for the benefit of the school.  Due to two recent resignations from council, we do have vacancies available.  If you would like to be a part of school council please contact the office.

Below are our current school councillors:

Simon McGlade (Executive Officer)

Principals of Victorian government schools are also by default the Executive Officer of school council and ex officio of all sub-committees. I have been on school councils at a variety of schools for close to 20 years.  This council is a very vibrant and exciting one full of fantastic councillors whom I look forward to working closely with.

Gurpreet Thiara (President)

I’m a hands on mum of two children, my son is currently in year 7 and my daughter is in grade 6 - both of my kids have been at Mackellar since starting school. I have seen the school evolve to what it is today and have always appreciated the positive impacts the school has had on my children.

Vince Scarfo (Vice-President)

I was previously the president of our school council, and now vice-president supporting Gurpreet in her role.  In addition, I am also the president of the Keilor Downs Secondary College Council. I am currently a member of the Buildings and Grounds sub-committee and have been a councillor here for two years.

Jay (Treasurer & Finance and Governance sub-Committee Chair)

My name is Jay Duraku and I am a member of the school council at Mackellar for 2021. I decided to join the school council to be a voice for parents of the school across a broad range of matters. I enjoy being a part of change to bring about great and new achievements, and I hope to be a part of this. I currently run a finance business and as such, have joined as part of the finance committee and treasurer in hopes I can use my attributes to better assist the school, and particular via the school council.

I am looking forward to working with the staff at Mackellar and together, we hope to make the school an even better facility than it already is. I hope by the end of my tenure I can see out some wonderful new changes and implement ideas that will be a lasting legacy to the community.

Anthony Michielin (Buildings and Grounds sub-Committee Chair)

I am the Assistant Principal here at Mackellar Primary School and I have been on school council for many years. In addition to being the chair of the Buildings and Grounds sub-committee, I am also a member of the Finance and Governance committee.

Joanne Pullens (Minutes Secretary)

I am the Business Manager at Mackellar Primary School.  I provide administrative support to School Council and am a member of the Finance & Governance sub-committee.

Tanya Lindsay-Clark (Education sub-Committee Chair)

I am excited to be part of Mackellar’s School Council and the opportunity to lead the Education Sub-committee.  I bring a strong passion for education, student well-being and interest in policy writing, which will involve collaboration with all stakeholders.

Christine Stojanoski (Councillor)

I am interested in being a part of the Mackellar Primary School Council as my son has recently commenced school here and feel that this is a great opportunity to learn and invest in the school, which my daughter will also attend in a few years time.  I am currently a member of the Education sub-Committee and I look forward to being a part of the council and hope to be an active member.
