Wellbeing

Hello Mackellar community,

As the school's well being coordinator, I would like to bring you all up to speed with some of the happenings around Mackellar over the previous few weeks.

Clubs@Mackellar

It has been a few weeks of Clubs@Mackellar now and the vibe from the children is energising.  Children are ready to go at the door of each of the classrooms when it is their time for Clubs, and can get quite annoyed if for some reason, like inclement weather, their club has to be cancelled.

Clubs are a great way for students to practise skills such as turn-taking, sharing, organising and team work which fit hand in glove with the work we are doing on promoting and instilling our school values. If you child has chosen not to participate in Clubs this term that's no worries at all.  Please remind them that they may like to in term three.

SWPBS

School Wide Positive Behaviours Supports (SWPBS) After assembly each week, all students across all of our classrooms take part in values based lessons where we explicitly teach the behaviours located on our SWPBS matrix.  Recently this has included teaching 'transitions'.  This includes transitioning between different areas of the school in between classes, or transitioning from one subject area to another in a calm and considered fashion.

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club will be up and running again soon. If you are running late and your child is needing breakfast cereal, toast with Vegemite or honey and fruit this will be available in Room 1. Please keep an eye out for the XUNO message as to when this is starting again.

We are now going into the colder months of the year and children are starting to bring coats/school jackets to school. Please make sure they have their name or your family name on them so you as parents are not needing to look in lost property for clothing.

Family Activity

Part of Wellbeing is having a healthy mindset. So, to help your children have a healthy mind you can talk to your children and ask them, to tell you 3 things that you have enjoyed at school today and why. This may take 5 minutes of your evening but could made a big difference to them to know how much you value school and their education.

Regards,
