PERFORMING ARTS

After a very interrupted semester, it is so pleasing to hear the sounds of instrumental lessons and ensembles taking place throughout the Music Centre. Ensembles will continue until the end of the school year so that students can develop their musical and ensemble playing skills

Year 7 Bands and Strings have shown their capabilities to build on their own individual sounds from over the time at home, they have sounded amazing in their first rehearsals back at school and are developing the ensemble skills. Year 8 Bands and Strings students have also started to rebuild their ensemble skills.

Other ensembles have been working on reconnecting in real life through rehearsals and performances. Orchestra popped up in a Flash Performance at lunchtime on Tuesday 9 November.

Christmas Choir will recommence this week for all vocal students.

Over the next few weeks all Performing Arts subjects will be running their assessments either in class, or via video upload. We encourage all students to play live to their family when they’re recording their performances so they can experience some level of a real performance whilst completing the tasks.

FLASH BRASS

Have you heard McKinnon's brass players giving short, flash-mob style performances around the campus in the last weeks?

Last Friday members of the Senior Brass Ensemble (and friends) celebrated the return to campus by performing beside the Theatre at the end of the day. Year 7 students leaving by the west gate were entertained with 'St Kilda Shuffle' and 'Bring Me Sunshine', one observing "What a lovely end to a great week!"

The Intermediate Brass played 'Razzle Dazzle' and 'I Will Follow Him' on Monday afternoon by the flagpoles.

On Wednesday at the start of lunch the Year 8 Brass ensemble channeled their inner pirates, presenting the sea shanty 'Haul Away Joe,' and defying sea winds and decks awash with 'Blowin' Blues.' All these students obviously practised hard throughout lockdown, and it has been great to hear live music around the school again!
