Principal's Post

Dear Families,

I hope you are all staying in a positive frame of mind while juggling your own family situation, work life and kids Remote Learning. My wife and I are lucky that our youngest child is in Year 12 and does not require our assistance to learn (she does require a little motivation from us at times though!) Quite a few of our St James staff members are in a similar situation to many of our families, juggling their own Remote Learning work commitments with their children's Remote Learning at home.

Thanks to the many families who have been able to work from home and juggle their own children's learning. I appreciate this is a difficult and at times frustrating task. This enables us to have less staff on site supervising students here and more staff working from home being available for their class.

Let's keep working together as we always have. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher, Carmel, myself or any staff member if you feel the need. We are here for you and your children.

Hopefully you registered for last night's webinar which provided some advice and thoughts on how to help look after your family during the lockdown. When this opportunity was presented to us on Friday, our Student Wellbeing Leader, Kayleigh and I both thought the investment would be worth while for our parents. We had an incredible 55 parents register for the webinar, the highest number of the nineteen schools who offered the presentation to their community! It was very satisfying to see many St James contributions in the chat bar and thank you for the many positive comments we received following the webinar.

Here is the link to the presentation in case you missed it and want to view it.

Congratulations Mrs Feild

Congratulations to Claire and Aaron on the birth of their third child, Jack Feild. Jack's two sisters are delighted to help look after their baby brother

St James 50 Years Celebration

Save the date for the big celebration: Sunday 25 July!

Who knows whether we will be able to hold this event on site?

We will be celebrating in some way regardless of COVID restrictions.

Operoo info sent home this week

We will be sending home information regarding a new system to gather permission notes for extra curricular activities and maintain contact and medical records of all students. Please be ready to complete the online information for your children. Once we have all families registered and with accurate, up to date information, we can implement this new system. Some families will be familiar with a similar system used in some secondary schools.

COVID Updates

Hopefully we will have all students back on site on Friday. Stay tuned for further information as it becomes available.

A few brief updates/reminders

  • PS to Dads: There are a few outstanding $5:00 IOUs from children who came to the Mothers' Day stall and forgot their money. If that's the case, can you please pop it in an envelope and send it to the office? Thanks!
  • Deb Lowe has taken some Long Service Leave and managed to leave Victoria just before we went into lockdown. Lisa Morris has increased her work days from two to four days a week until Deb returns in August. - Office Administrator days for now Lisa Morris (Mon - Thurs) and Maree Prendergast (Thurs - Fri)
  • Our next School Advisory council (formerly known as the Ed Board) meeting is next Tuesday 15 June and will be online
  • Friday's mass to celebrate The Feast of the Sacred Heart has been cancelled. We are planning a small prayerful liturgy if students are back on site. We will still accept grocery donations via classrooms when students return

Have a great week,

Dave
