Semester 1 Updates

Dear Parents/Carers and Students,

It has been a busy semester for our students, producing great work and demonstrating their personal best with the tasks they are given in each of their classes.

Progress Checks

We have our next round of progress checks to report to students and their families on how they are going during the semester. The areas reported on in this round includes:

  • Attendance

At Mordialloc College, we want students to attend at least 90 % of their lessons. If students are attending at least 90 %, the teacher will select ‘On Track’.  If under 90 %, the teacher will select ‘Needs Improvement’.

  • Learning Behaviours

We are continuing to use our new rubric which includes our school values (Personal Best, Respect, Integrity and Responsibility) and Learning Growth.

  • Academic Performance

As stated last term, we have the addition of ‘Classwork’ on our Semester Report. Students need to complete all major tasks for their subject to achieve an overall Satisfactory (S) result. Teachers will indicate if students are ‘On Track’ with their academics or will indicate a reason for not being on track.

Parents and carers are encouraged to contact their child’s teachers if they have any questions.

Attached to this letter is a copy of the Learning Behaviours Rubric that our teachers use when reporting on student behaviour in the classroom.

End of Semester

To ensure adequate time is given to the delivery of course content at each semester, our college strategically aligns the semester dates.  As a reminder to families, our Semester 1 will end:

  • Friday 14 May for Year 12 students
  • Friday 21 May for Year 11 students
  • Thursday 10 June for Years 7 – 10 students

It is at this time the College would like to highlight the following key dates for this semester.  All benchmark tasks and SACs in the form of assignments and projects are to be submitted by:

  • Friday 21 May for Years 10 – 12 students
  • Friday 28 May for Years 7 – 9 students

These dates allow students to manage their time effectively, to submit major tasks and then prepare for exams and/ or final tests in class.  We ask everyone to please note these above key dates in their family calendars.

Attached is the calendar that was distributed in the newsletter early Term 1 to show all key dates.

Overall Semester Results

Further to the addition of ‘Classwork’ being added to Years 7 – 10 reports, we want to outline how a student will achieve an overall satisfactory (S) result as well as show how a student can be given an overall not satisfactory (N) result.

An overall Satisfactory (S) result is given if:

  • The student passes all the benchmark tasks and receives an S for Classwork
  • The student passes all bar one benchmark task and receive an S for Classwork

An overall N (Not satisfactory) result is give if:

  • The student receives an N for more than one benchmark task
  • The student receives an S for all benchmark tasks but an N for Classwork
  • The student receives an S for all bar one benchmark task but an N for Classwork

Thank you for taking the time to read through this information and please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teachers if you have any questions.
