Wow! Who can believe we are at the end of Week 8 Term 1.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Cheryl Owens, Reace Milgate and Bronwyn Carlisle for taking 42 of our students to Pulse Dance and Choir last week. The students made me extremely proud the way they represented our school.
Congratulations to 7 of our fantastic Eglinton fish who represented the school at the Western Swimming Carnival last Friday. You all represented our school with such enthusiasm and pride. Congratulations to Amelia who will be swimming backstroke at the State Carnival at the end of Term 1.
Bush Fire and Grass Fire Evacuation Plan - Following on from last weeks newsletter, I would like to give you some more information. If the school is directed to evacuate by the Rural Fire Service and the Department of Education due to bush or grass fire, staff will escort students to the evacuation points which are located within the school. Parents will be notified that the school has been asked to evacuate via The Sentral Parent Portal. At this stage we ask that you do not try to pick up your children from school as we will need to leave the roads free for emergency services for ease of access. I understand that this will be hard for parents.
Once the evacation is in progress the school will contact the local bus company who will send enough buses for all staff and students to be transported to a safe pick up location. Either Bathurst West PS or Kelso PS. Once we have all students at the safe location, a time and the location for pick up will be sent via Sentral Parent Portal. Please be assured the staff will go above and beyond to ensure the safety of each student at Eglinton.
School Photos - Please ensure students are in school uniform on Monday 20/3/23 for school photos. This can be either the Eglinton formal uniform or the everyday uniform. Please see the Canteen and Uniform shop tab for uniform examples. Photo Forms must be returned before or on Monday.
Every day matters - This is a reminder that all student absences must be explained within 7 days of the first day of the student being away from school. Please contact the school promptly or enter the absence through the Sentral Portal letting us know the reason for leave.
Student attendance in Government School Policy states:
14.1 Family holidays and travel are no longer considered under the Exemption from School - Procedures. Travel outside of vacation period is now counted as an absence for statistical purposes.
14.3 A principal should not accept a reason for travel during school terms if it is not in the best interests of the student. Educational, social and participation reasons should be specified in the application.
14.4 Travel is considered to be domestic or international travel for the purposes of a family holiday, family business, bereavement or other reasons, which should be specified in the application.
14.5 Principals should consult with parents about the intention of the travel and in the case of family holidays encourage parents to take holidays with their child during school vacation periods.
Eglinton Public School attendance as at 9th March 2023
Last Week: 93%
This week: 93%
Goal: 95%
Our expected student attendance rate is above 95%. To maintain an attendance rate of above 90% a student should have no more than 5 days off a term
Thank you for supporting us in reaching our attendance goal. The data above shows our current student attendance for the last week. Please ensure you contact the school via the Sentral Parent Portal if your child has a day off to explain their absence.
