We are mathematicians!

The Reception children at St Paul Lutheran School have recently discovered that we are all mathematicians. Mathematicians notice, create, describe, and invent new ideas.

When mathematics was invented, it was defined as the “science of patterns, rules, and relationships”. So, if you are thinking as a mathematician you are being a pattern seeker, pattern resolver, and pattern finder.

Recently, the Reception children have been focusing on ‘noticing as a mathematician’. We have been noticing mathematical attributes including size, spatial attributes, and quantities by sorting objects in our classroom, school, and gardens.

We know that God created and continues to create a world which provides for peoples’ needs. As mathematicians, we can also notice God’s creation in our world.

Colossians 1:16

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

As mathematicians, can we take the time to notice and be thankful for God’s amazing creations and the patterns that we find?
