Middle School

From Year 7 Davis

In 7D, we have loved working through our Christian Studies and The Resilience Project lessons. It's been a great time for our class to connect, learn key skills in showing gratitude, empathy and mindfulness, and to grow in our knowledge of who God is, our theme for Term 1. Students have been participating and telling their personal stories, feeling confident to share with their friends and peers.

In our Christian Studies lessons, we are looking at 'Who is God?' We've looked at how we can see God in everyday things and how He relates to us all differently. We drew pictures on how we viewed God, and we learned that God reveals himself differently to everyone.

We have also looked at God as the Creator and how we are created in His image, so we can be creative in many ways too. Last week, we discussed God as the Father. We've had some stimulating conversations to ensure a deeper understanding and connection with God.

Here are some comments from students about what they are learning:

Something I enjoyed with Christian Studies was learning about God's endless love. He loves us more than our parents and our teachers. God teaches us to take his love and spread kindness to others. Jesus died on the cross to set us free and to show us how much he loved us. Jesus will always love us - Raizel

In Christian Studies, we are learning more about God and who He is. It is important to know who He is, so we can have a loving faith and relationship with Him. If you are struggling with life, you can talk to God and He will listen to you, and He will always forgive you no matter what. You can always go to Him, and you can trust Him and He will always understand you - Skylah

I liked learning more about God and doing the Kahoot with Henri and Ziyang (in our devotion). I also liked how we learned about who God is and how God is our Father and Creator - Jayden

I like Christian Studies because I can connect with God and pray. In Christian Studies, we have worked on devotions and how we can be like God. I enjoyed doing a picture of what we think God looks like. It was fun to see what others view of God is. I also learnt that God loves and forgives us, no matter what. He will always be there for us, and we can always come and talk to him. He is our Father - Lillianna

Year 7D have also been participating in student devotions and doing an excellent job of using different ways of showing a Christ Centered approach to sharing about Jesus.

Some pictures from our devotions, Mindfulness Mondays and being creative like God.

Year 8 Geography visit to Port Noarlunga

This term, Year 8 Geography students have focused on Coastal Landscapes. On Thursday 9 March, we visited Port Noarlunga. This stretch of coastline showcases stunning examples of landforms that the students have studied in the classroom, such as a spit and wave-cut platform. The area also highlights the threat posed by coastal erosion and how humans are managing the landscapes. Students used tennis balls to measure longshore drift along the beach; surveyed the biodiversity of plant species in the sand dunes; and observed ways that the environment is being protected.

The Resilience Project

We're excited to promote PROJECT+, designed to support the wellbeing of parents and caregivers and complement the valuable work of 'The Resilience Project' in the classroom. This Parent and Carer edition of PROJECT+ unpacks the topic of Emotional Literacy, exploring why emotional literacy is essential for both adults and children alike.

20 Book Challenge

From the Emmaus Student Book Council

The Emmaus Book Council is a student group for all things book-related, with members from across the Middle and Senior School. This year, the Book Council has created a 20 Book Challenge. Across the year, interested students will read different books that fit into 20 categories including: a book published in the year you were born, a book recommended by a friend, and many more. Those who successfully complete the challenge will be invited to a celebration and will enter the draw for prizes. It’s not too late for students to join the challenge! They can find out more by joining the Google Classroom page with the code: pkmpo7k.

The Book Council will also help to organise events such as Book Week activities and Book Swap sessions. The Book Council strives to encourage and spread the love of reading with everyone.
