Library News

Welcome

Welcome to a new year of borrowing! I hope you all enjoyed a fabulous holiday and are looking forward to an exciting year back at school. A special welcome to our new St. Joseph’s families, I look forward to meeting both you and your child in the forthcoming year.

Library Borrowing

This year every class will have their library lesson on FRIDAY. During this time the students will have the opportunity to borrow books to read at home. These books may be kept at home for two weeks before they are required to be returned to school.

Each student needs to have a library bag to ensure the safe transportation of library books to and from school.

Parents and carers are encouraged to support their children in the regular reading of their chosen books, as well as ensuring that library books are securely stored whilst you have them at home.

Helping your child to remember to return their books will be greatly appreciated!

SORA

Don't forget SORA for your child's reading source. SORA allows children to read on any device that they are able to access the internet on, wherever they may be. It provides access to hundreds of titles which are suitable for their age. All students can access this by logging into their school account and going onto the library site. They may also access by clicking on the icon above. Ebooks are a great option for students and are readily available as part of our library catalogue.  These books are automatically returned which means no overdue books! I encourage students to browse the ebooks available in Oliver.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge will soon be upon us. I will pass on further information in the coming weeks.

Scholastic Book Club

St Joseph's will be offering this service again this year. Last year - through your support- we were able to add to our in class reading support resources.

For new families, book club operates 8 times a year. Books offered are selected for their appeal to the ages recommended. Online payments can be made and the books are then delivered to the school about a week after the close date.

We are able to notify you when the books arrive should you not wish your child to know about the books- especially good for birthdays.

Our first book club closes on 17th February. Late orders are unable to be processed.
