Governor General's Conversation

Students from the Wanganui campus of GSSC held a virtual conversation with the Governor General of Australia, David Hurley, and his wife, Linda Hurley on Tuesday 8th December. Georgie Waser, Caitlyn Glasson, Rowan Farren, Reyhaneh Hosseini, Abby Hill, Isabella O’Dwyer, Beth Gray, Melissa Bucktin and Olivia Buchan each spoke with Mr Hurley for a few minutes.

Mr and Mrs Hurley spoke about the importance of kindness and positivity in the students as future leaders. They encouraged them to continue working to achieve their goals so that they can help shape the community. The students were assisted in planning and writing their questions by the co-chair of the Victorian Youth Congress, Tom Saxton. These questions centred around many topics, but focused mainly on the attributes of being a positive leader and influencing decisions that impact Australia.

The meeting was organised by GSSC in conjunction with Future Voices, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Centre for Optimism and had participants from as far away as Paris and Denver who tuned in to listen to our students!
