Principal's Report

Fiona Pratt

I would like to welcome back our students, families and staff to the 2021 school year.

Please know we are well prepared to ensure that all students will have opportunities to catch up on any lost learning with our intervention program already underway and teachers getting to know each and every student in their classes.

I also wish to convey to our Clyde School community that I have advised the department of my retirement. This decision has been a difficult one and taken some time to get to, however it is now time for me to begin the next phase of my life enjoying more time with my grandchildren, pursuing a lower golf handicap ( forever elusive), taking up piano once again and investigating some voluntary work.

Michelle Mackenlay will continue to be in the Acting Principal position until the substantive position is advertised, possibly in Term 2.  I would like to thank Michelle for her outstanding work along with the leadership team for the smooth and organised start to the year.

Although I won’t be at the school this term, there will be an opportunity to say goodbye at our final assembly for the term on Monday, 29th March. Until then, I thank all of our students, parents and staff for the privilege of being the Clyde PS Principal over the last 5 ½ years. I will always be in the background to support the Clyde team and look forward to this next exciting phase for the school.

Important Reminder

We have noticed that already in our first week back at school we have a number of our students being picked up early from school, losing valuable learning time. Not only does this affect these students, our office staff are continuously interrupting teachers in classrooms arranging for these students to be picked up. We ask all parents to make appointments outside of school hours, and to be mindful of the learning of others that they are disrupting.

Staffing Update

Unfortunately, Mr Parsons our music teacher has picked up a new position at a secondary school over the holidays. We are currently in the recruitment process for a new music teacher.

Foundation Bags

Every year, the Department of Education and Training provides every Foundation student starting at a Victorian government school a bag of engaging resources to celebrate this milestone in their educational journey.

The mix of items are specially designed for students and their families to help them learn and thrive from the start of Term 1. This year, the design on the front of the Prep bag explores the importance of community in a child's journey through school.

This week, Jordan Crugnale, our State Member of Parliament came out to visit with our 2021 Foundation students and present them with their bags.

Lights, Camera, Action!

We had smiles all round on Wednesday, when the film crew for a new tv series ‘Advancing Australia’ and host Guy Pearce, filmed parts of  their upcoming series at our school.

The series focuses on change makers and innovators in the fields of environment, education, technology and sustainability It’s all about stories of Australians doing extraordinary things to make our country a better place. ‘Advancing Australia‘ with Guy Pearce premieres 6pm Saturday 27th March on Channel 10.

Some of our Year 1 and Year 6 students were filmed and may appear in the series and we were excited to watch behind the scenes of the filming, too.

Pictured below are our School Captains and Vice Captains with ‘Advancing Australia’ host Guy Pearce and acting principal, Michelle Mackenlay.

Breakfast Club

Many studies link eating breakfast to improved memory and concentration.

For this reason, we are excited to announce that our Clyde Primary School Breakfast Club will be reopening next week, open each Friday morning from 8.15am-8.45am in the centre of the Foundation Building.

Food items for our Breakfast Club have been provided via Foodbank, as well as donations from our generous school community. Currently, we are seeking donations of long-life fruit juice to complement students’ breakfasts and donations will happily be accepted via our school office.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our ongoing supporters and community helpers, who graciously donate their time in support of our Breakfast Club program.

We are always looking for more volunteers so if this interests you, please contact the school office for further information.

We look forward to seeing you there on Friday!

School Council

Our School Council are calling for nominations for 2 parent members. Nomination forms are available at the school office from Monday. Further information regarding our School Council Elections is contained in this newsletter.
