Year 12 Valedictory Dinner

Monday 14 December

It was uncertain if we would have the opportunity to formally farewell our class of 2020, but, we did it! The evening saw the final time the Year 12 group would gather as students of Lilydale High School and what a year they’ve had.

Throughout the evening there was acknowledgement of the incredible team effort between parents, students and teachers that needed to occur if we were to have a successful year. Despite a great deal of experimentation with remote teaching, in the end we got there. With the efforts of the Victorian community, we were able to enjoy the company of the teachers and students with parents and families able to be part of it virtually.

My appreciation to the Senior School team for their organisation of the evening (in a very short time frame!), the Senior School Captains; Lily, Derek, Caitlin and Ethan for their assistance, Ash Damen for her vocals performance, the wider leadership team, Yarra Valley Catering for a beautiful meal, our Office Staff and finally our students and their families who supported the event.

Congratulations to the class of 2020 for your strength, resilience and ability to remain positive!

Our awards included; Academic Excellence and Endeavour, Subject Awards, the Betty Lynch Environment Award and finally our Valedictorians for 2020 who, made a heartfelt speech on behalf of the class of 2020.

Orientation Programs

It has been very pleasing to see so many of our students involved in the Orientation to the next year level programs that have been organised this year. With the learning that has been missed this year, it was very important for us to have the opportunity to have extended time with all students to take them through assessments that gave teachers a chance to plan their teaching for 2021 with their new classes.

We are looking forward to a successful year in 2021 that will (hopefully) be entirely onsite.

New Buildings

Last week we took possession of our new buildings. The new Reception area will be in full swing at the beginning of 2021, the Zoology Centre will take a little longer as the enclosures need to be purpose built. The Zoology Centre is a state of the art facility that includes different temperature zones for the animals and will accommodate Science classes from across the year levels.

School Magazine – Salamander

Congratulations to editor, Eleni Stavrou and those who contributed to this year’s Salamander magazine. It was uncertain as to whether there would be enough to fill the annual publication this year, but as always, we found a way and easily filled it with very different, but many activities that occurred.

In Closing……

All of my communications this year have started by thanking everyone for their support, it has been a year where world events have impacted everyone and impacted the way in which we go about our daily lives. I am so pleased and proud of the way in which we, in our tiny community, have been empathetic, supportive, courageous and resilient, it has proven that there is nothing we can’t endure as long as we stick together.

Thank you for an extraordinary year, for all of your messages of support and encouragement, it truly has enabled us to keep moving forward. I wish you and your family a wonderful, relaxed and happy time over the festive season. We look forward to seeing you in 2021.

For those families leaving us, I wish you good health and happiness always, thank you for being an important part of the LHS community.
