Farewell Year Six

Year 6 Students

It is a bittersweet time for our Year 6 students who are now in their final week of primary school. While they are no doubt looking forward to the exciting times that lay ahead, there is also an element of sadness. Many started their schooling at BNPS back in 2014 and many have older siblings making their association with our school even longer.

The effects of the pandemic impacted everyone but none more greatly than our Year 6 students and their families.  For our Year 6 students, their time at primary school comes to an end this year.  They do not get a second chance to experience the special last year of primary school activities and events.

I am in awe of our Year 6 students as they have not complained about the year that was but rather have taken everything in their stride.  It is extremely difficult to find the most suitable vocabulary to adequately describe the Year 2020.

I recently spoke to a few Year 6 students and asked them to describe this year.  The words they used included strange, unbelievable and hectic, but interestingly not one word of complaint of what they didn’t get to do in 2020.  The resilience of our young students is to be applauded and admired. Their flexibility, adaptability, gratitude, empathy and positivity could not be demonstrated better than their responses to the many trials and tribulations of the Year 2020.

The Power of our Student Voice

This year has been very special

Going into Year 6 I was expecting a jam packed year and in most ways I still got it.

In remote learning I was grumpy and tired but you never really think about the upsides of things until they have happened. My family and I have grown closer, eaten delicious lunches and I have become a lot better at using technology.

I admit I was disappointed when a normal graduation couldn’t go ahead but now, a whole day of celebrations, that is amazing! I have become more grateful for my teachers.  Mrs Badley’s photos are awesome and I really appreciate all the teachers’ efforts to fit everything in. They are the best!

Going to high school is completely bittersweet.  I have been at this school for so long and it has been epic.  I can’t wait to start high school but will miss BNPS dearly.

In all, this year has been special.  A once in a lifetime experience and I am proud to be a graduate of 2020!

They will be leaving a time capsule at school and the contents will be a lasting legacy for future students at this school.  On behalf of our school community we thank you and your families most sincerely.

I sincerely thank the many staff who have taught, mentored, coached, cared for and helped shape our Year 6 students who now have the skills and confidence to take on any challenge they may face in the coming years.

I would also like to sincerely thank our Student Leaders for carrying out their roles so responsibly, and every Year 6 student for leading by example and taking their Year 1 buddies and many other students under their wings.
