Finishing Strong!

We are very close to finishing the year and I would like to remind parents that all students must attend school until the last day of term.  We will continue to offer stimulating classroom programs that will celebrate and motivate your child to continue to learn. There are a number of fantastic activities planned so please remind your child the value of completing goals and attending school.  Thanks parents!

Step Up Day

On Tuesday we had a terrific day running our 2020 classes.  The Step Up Day is extremely important for students and teachers to get to know each other.  This experience has established the climate for a safe, happy and positive classroom environment to flow over into Term 1. So parents at home continue to prepare your child, talk through worries and reassure your child that they will have an amazing time with their new grade next year.

Head Lice Checks

Last week live lice have been reported in the junior school and parents need to continue to keeping checking and treat their children’s hair. Lice Alert notes are distributed to classroom tubs and if you have any questions please give me a call.  . Reminder-any child found with live lice will be excluded from school until they are treated.

Woori Gift Giving Tree Community Appeal

Thank you for your generous donations, my elves are being kept busy wrapping presents for members of our community going through a tough time. I really love the level of care people are going to when purchasing gifts. The community cheer is really helping us make a magic moment. If parents or friends would like to donate a gift, please drop by or contact the Welfare Team.

Social Skills Groups

This week our Grade 6 transition groups will finish on a high. We have had some robust discussions about going to high school and the students now understand that everyone can feel nervous and excited about endings and new beginnings.  This week we will be talking about their experience on orienteering day to their secondary school. Over the term the students have shared similar viewpoints about worries and other students have offered fantastic ways to solve these problems.

Last week our Grade 1/2 social skills groups focused on the topic of communication and conversations.  The students rotated in pairs where they practiced greeting each other and then they ask questions. They learned that it can be tricky to keep a conversation going however once they found their common interests the chatter and their exchanges flowed smoothly.  The students realised that along with their peers they shared some similar likes and dislikes and it is fun (and not too awkward) to get to know others better.

Holiday Thoughts-Transitioning into 2021

As your child moves up a grade, there are some things you can do to help them over the summer break. Over the holidays think about making the time to have quality conversations with your child. Read to and listen to your child read. Ask questions, make predictions, make life to text connections as you read. Whether counting out potatoes to peel for a meal try to think of ways to make maths real life and relevant in your child’s day. Help your child develop a sense of working and solving problems by them self. Talk about ways and start practicing getting and staying organised. Encourage your child to write often. Writing stories, letters, notes and lists are great ways to get thoughts organised and to put them onto paper. These little things will lead to big successes next year.  All the best everyone for a safe and happy Xmas and holiday break and we will see you back in Term 1, 2020.
