Lions Public Speaking Competition

In the last week of Term 2, we held our school-based competition. Each of our Year 3-6 students delivered their speech to their peers, the junior class, teachers and some parents who came along to lend their support.

We are so proud of each of our students, as they overcame their nerves to present their speeches to the audience. We can honestly say that we were absolutely blown away by their efforts. We were so very fortunate to have Marcus Uren and Suzanne Camm come along and judge on the day. Both judges gave lots of positive feedback to each of our students, which can be used to further improve their performance.

The next round of the competition will take place on Sunday July 23rd at 12pm (please note a change of date and time from the one originally given). This competition will be held at the East Loddon Lion's Den. We would dearly love as many family members, staff and community members as possible come along to give support to our six competitors (as they are going up against students from East Loddon that have been chosen from a larger pool and in many cases have competed in previous years).

A note was sent home with students in Years 3-6 on the last day of term, requesting an indication of attendance by your child and family members. Could I please ask that if you are still yet to return this form to do so ASAP? This is in addition to the RSVP required by the club- see note sent home on Day 1 of Term 3 from Dan Straub, on behalf of the Lions Club or below:

News from the Year 3-6 Room

In the senior room we are fixated on all things angle related. The kids have been busy completing a range of activities by naming, creating, estimating and measuring different angles. If you begin hearing words such as acute, obtuse and reflex, or notice them comparing and measuring the corners of different objects around the home don't be alarmed.

MARC News

We are participating in the CBCA Shadow Judging program again this year. As part of the program, Raywood PS have received the 6 short listed books in the Early Childhood category. The first

book we have looked at is Snap! by Anna Walker, a rollicking, rhyming, onomatopoeic adventure of one little frog. Students have discussed the setting, characters and choice of language in this book and considered why it was chosen for the short list.

We all made jungle collages to hide some frogs in, and a fun game where our frogs have to catch a fly!

ART

At the end of last term the students created City Scape Collages, inspired by the work of Francesco Lietti (an Italian artist who lives in Hong Kong). The students used papers that they had previously printed and painted on, and combined these with other colourful and patterned papers to create layer buildings or varying shapes and heights. We finished off our collages by adding details and patterns to form windows and outlines using special paint pens. The students are so proud of their work, and quite rightfully so!
