Scotsburn Parent Social Dinner

This term, Buninyong Primary School have organised some Social Dinners for parents in conjunction with Red Door Pizza. This will be an opportunity for parents to meet or catch up with other families from your child’s year levels for a fun night in a relaxed environment.

Family Groups - Sustainability

Did you know that Australians throw out 2.7 million single-use or disposable coffee cups every single day?! It’s no surprise then that disposable coffee cups are a major contributor to litter on our streets and in our waterways. Here are Scotsburn, we are ready to tackle this and do our bit to lower this statistic. As part of our Sustainability lessons this term we have been learning about how we can reduce the waste of coffee (and hot chocolate) cups. Students have designed a reusable mug that they can use over and over again. We are looking forward to starting up the hot chocolate machine and putting them to good use!

Family Groups - Team Building

Last week the Team Building group for Family Groups looked at the themes of honesty and working as a team. To display and practise these themes, students worked in pairs through some tabloid-style activities, collecting points along the way. Students did a magnificent job working with students from different year levels and had a wonderful time.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

Week 6 started off with lots of fun involving World Environment Day and Reconciliation Week activities. Students all worked together as a campus to reflect and then make a difference by spending time cleaning up, in and around our schoolyard, and making a promise or pledge on something we can do to care for our land. It was lovely to see all the students working together.

In Reading, we have been focusing on decoding words and retelling a story. We are looking closely at the retelling stories and using the characters, setting, event/problem, and solution to help sequence the storyline. This is also transferred into Writing where we are learning to write a narrative. We look forward to sharing these with you at the completion of our writing cycle.

In Maths, we have moved on to exploring the connection between addition and subtraction. We will further explore subtraction in the coming weeks.

We look forward to welcoming the Buninyong Kindergarten into the classroom this week to share all the learning and fun!

SC2 Learning Snapshot

There was plenty of action again throughout Week 6 for SC2! Starting off with some activities on Monday afternoon, relating to World Environmental Day. Students teamed up with SC1 and SC3 to complete campus cleanups, as well as creating their very own pledge to how they will aim to help the environment in their own way. Great job, guys!

Students did an amazing job at revising their narrative drafts by adding ‘The Inside Story’ to a chosen paragraph from their stories. Students mostly selected their problems, detailing background information about the feelings and emotions of their characters whilst these events were taking place. This was a difficult activity and one that they completed in an impressive manner. Great job, SC2!

Students have commenced Fractions in Maths, as well as summarising in Reading. Students have been using scaffolded templates to aid the detail of their summaries from their own reading, as well as using ‘The Lost Whale’.

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Week 6 was again jam-packed with activities and learning for SC3. Students did a brilliant job immersing themselves in the theme of Reconciliation Week, learning lots about the importance and significance of the week. The artworks they have been putting together with Mrs Morgan will look amazing!

Our DASH program is getting to the pointy end of the term now, where groups are planning out their community-based projects, ready to present at the showcase in Week 9. We will provide more information about this in next week’s newsletter. The themes and life skills that students are developing through this program are so important and will be transferable to all aspects of their lives.

In Maths, students have now completed their Asian City Maps and calculations of Area, Perimeter and Volume. They are now using their newly developed knowledge of scale to recreate 3-dimensional models in Minecraft Education. This task has been a wonderful way to explore concepts of measurement in a purposeful and fun way.

Prep and Grade 1 students really enjoyed giggling and cheering while watching Japanese contestants attempting to complete a slippery slope challenge last week. This video clip is an awesome way to practise colour names and is very enjoyable as a family!

We have moved our colour assessments for Prep-1 students to next term for both campuses, as we both feel that the students could use a few extra weeks on this subject 😊.

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.
