Curricular Report

Joe Priest

Director of Cocurricular & Head of Sport

Over the last fortnight the school has been a busy place. Our debaters have been extremely busy competing in the online debating competition, the equestrian team were in Coonabarabran at the Northwest Equestrian Expo and the annual Music Festival was hosted here at school.

Debating and Public Speaking

Our debaters and public speakers have been competing in the ANVDC online debating competition and our public speakers have been involved in the local CWA public speaking competition. There have been fantastic results in both competitions over the last month. In debating our top teams are yet to lose in the competition which is an excellent result for debating competition that includes some very high calibre competition. Congratulations to Amy Pearce who won the CWA Year 9 and 10 division and Chaitra Avirneni who competed strongly in the Year 7 & 8 division. Good luck to both girls will be competing in the next round of the CWA public speaking competition.

Equestrian

Our equestrian team competed in the Northwest Equestrian Expo with a team of almost thirty riders. Thanks must go to MIC, Bardi Mannix for her organisation of the team and knowledge that was imparted to the students throughout the event. Also, a large thanks to all of the parents who assisted across the course of the event.

It is a fantastic event with riders being able to compete in multiple disciplines. Congratulations to Ryan Weston who won the 15 years age champion and 15 years sporting champion. Charlotte Pearce who was named as the 65cm showjumping champion. Our division 1 polocrosse team of Erica Stewart, Zoe Stevenson and Ryan Weston won the Hirst Family Shield for the third year in a row.

Music Festival

On Thursday 8 June we held the annual Senior School Music Festival. This was a fantastic evening attended by parents, students, and staff.

This showcase event allowed all of the school’s ensembles and HSC students to perform multiple pieces of their repertoire. The standard of our students is truly impressive and a clear demonstration of what discipline and persistence can achieve. It is also an truly impressive sight to see the schools orchestra in action. The sound is incredible and is something that as a school we simply do not have the opportunity to hear enough throughout the year. I take this opportunity to publicly thank Mrs Jackie Shields for the hard work and dedication she puts into the school's performing arts program. Being lucky enough to experience a night like this is a pleasure but simply does not happen without a hard-working staff in the background. Congratulations to all of our students and music staff on a fantastic evening.

Cross Country

Congratulations to Skye Napier who represented AICES at the NSWCIS cross country carnival last week. In an extremely competitive race Skye did herself and the school proud. Well done to Skye on her result.

Football

1sts Women Won 7-4

In only the 5th game of the football season, the Kinross 1st Grade Women’s Team has improved beyond expectations, achieving a fabulous win against Waratah Whites last Saturday the 3rd. In beautiful, sunny conditions, the girls started off strong, scoring 4 goals in the first 20 minutes. However, Waratahs made a competitive come back in the second half, incentivising our strikers to put a few more in the back of the net. Overall, they put in an amazing effort, using skills and strategies from training, to lead them all the way to a 7-4 win. A huge shoutout to Chloe McGilvray, who scored 6 of our 7 goals, and to Mrs Mortimer, for managing all the substitutions!

1sts Men – Won 5-4

It was a close game against the Tigers of Milthorpe, but the KWS Men’s 1sts prevailed. After a slow start from both teams there were early chances at both ends and the pace of the schoolboys almost caught the mem or Millthorpe off guard a few times. At half time it was 1-1 and early in the 2nd half the boys took the lead 2-1. Millthorpe took one back and there was a tense final 20 minutes in store. KWS took the lead with goals from Udathveer (exchange student) and Liam McKenzie. With 5 minutes to go all looked good but Milthorpe struck back with two quick goals of their own. With time running out and KWS pushing forward Udathveer was taken down in the box and a penalty was awarded. With almost the last kick of the game KWS took the lead and the day was theirs.

Equestrian

What a fantastic event the Northwest Equestrian Expo (Coonabarabran) was this year for the 28 riders that made up the School's equestrian team. There were so many ribbons amongst the riders from so many different events, what a versatile mob we have! All the students presented themselves and their horses beautifully, represented the school with pride and demonstrating great sportsmanship. The camaraderie around the stables, kitchen, and campfire each day is something of which everyone should be proud

The major prize winners of the event were our polocrosse team, winning the A grade final, again, for the 3rd year in a row! An awesome spectacle, and we have Erica, Zoe and Ryan for another two years. Look out.

Ryan Weston won champion rider for the 15 years boys as well as 15 years sporting champion.

Charlotte Pearce, Year 7, was champion 65cm show jumping rider.

Audrey Pearce, Year 9, won novice dressage champion (Years 7-9).

As I mentioned, there were loads of other ribbons, but I’d like to take up our space with photos showing off these amazing students and their horses.

A big thank you to all the parents who chip in and help with everything from cooking meals, fulfilling school duties during the event, help keep the riders on track and making the whole camping experience extremely enjoyable. It did help that we had no rain this year.

Rugby Report

Our first ISA Competition Round is finally upon us. Our boys have had a great trial period and we are well rested. Our players are hungry for success and are keen to rip in against Oakhill College this weekend. Given this is our only fixture before the school holidays there is no excuse for complacency. We will be putting absolutely everything in to these games and we want to upset Oakhill in their own backyard.

The away trip offers our boys the opportunity to watch and support their mates, and with an approximate total of 240 boys travelling this week, we expect plenty of school spirit to be on display both on and off the field.

Whilst many of us enjoyed a quiet long weekend, a number of our students represented Central West at the NSW Championships around the state. Congratulations and well done to the following students;

  • Central West U13s - Hamish Leader
  • Central West U 14s - Reggie Staniforth, Cooper Martin, Oscar Chandler Sullivan, Charlie Kimmins, Maddox Bruem, Hugo O'Brien, Digby Evans, Archie Balcomb, Hugh Nash, Harry Miller and Tom Mason
  • Central West Girls U14s - Sienna Everson
  • Central West U15s - Harper Shaw, Hugh Williams and Toby Buckland.
  • Central West U16s Girls - Maddy O'Brien, Grace Tancred, Maggie Kirby, Lilly Clarke and Scarlett Martyr.
  • Central West Girls U18s Taylah Hobbs and Eden Hawker

Bring on Saturday.
