From the Head of Senior School

Mr Trent Chapman

NESA HSC Award - Brother John Taylor Memorial Prize

The Brother John Taylor Memorial Prize is presented each year to a student or students who have overcome significant hardship to attain academic excellence in their HSC.

The award (first presented in 1993) was established in memory of Brother John Taylor who made a significant contribution to education in NSW.

Recently, HSC graduates from 2022 were recognised for overcoming significant adversity to achieve outstanding results in the HSC. Recipients and their families were joined by representatives from the NSW Government, the three school sectors and the trustees who administer the prize.

Kinross Wolaroi is incredibly proud of Harrison Crisp, HSC Graduate and School Dux for 2022, who was one of three students in NSW to be awarded the Brother John Taylor Prize. Our very best wishes go out to Harrison and family.

HSC Study Camp

Week 9, Term 2 Monday 19 – Thursday 22 June

In the final week of this term, we have planned an intensive HSC study week for our Year 12 students. We will be offering sessions for each of our HSC subjects across the week.

For some of these sessions, we have engaged an external company - Elevate Education, to run targeted study sessions for our students. Elevate have delivered study sessions for our students through Wellbeing Days and in our recent Study Week at the end of Term 1. These sessions with Elevate have been well received by our students.  For some sessions, students will have the opportunity to work on their major works and performances. We will also be providing the opportunity for students to sit practice papers under supervised exam conditions.

Students will shortly receive a timetable of their sessions for the week. There will be two sessions per day from 9:00am – 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 4:00pm. If students need to leave the afternoon session early to catch a bus, they may do so.  TAFE TVET classes on Wednesday afternoon remain unchanged and these students are expected to attend TAFE as normal.  Attendance for the week is compulsory for all students, as this is a normal school week. Any leave from School must follow normal approval processes.

Students may wear neat and tidy casual clothing for the week. Please be mindful of clothing requirements for practical subjects.

There will be no Wellbeing or Assembly for Year 12 students during this week.

We are excited to be offering this opportunity for our HSC students and we hope this is a great opportunity for revision and consolidation before heading into their final term of Year 12.

2024 Student Leadership Applications

Next week at Year 11 assembly, I will be discussing the upcoming leadership selection process for our 2024 Prefects and House Captains: our expectations and requirements. Our current leaders have done an outstanding job in their tenure, and we are looking to emulate the quality of candidate in the next year. The Kinross Wolaroi values of courage, resilience, commitment, respect and inclusion are all essential attributes of a good leader and it would be beneficial for you to discuss with your child how they embody these qualities as they prepare their submissions.  Information on how to apply for a role will be posted on the Hub after the meeting, with applications due by Thursday 27 July. Interviews will take place in Week 5.

My very best wishes to all of our families and friends for the upcoming holidays, especially to those travelling. I look forward to catching up next term.
