Around the Junior School

Junior Student Representative Council

Over the past few weeks, the SRC have been baking some delicious cupcakes that have been purchased by the Junior School students and families. Between the Junior School Performing Arts Concert and Monday 5 June at school, the SRC has raised $660.60.

With such incredible funds, the SRC are now able to purchase a giant, human sized chess board. This will be implemented into the Junior School for all students to enjoy at break times.

The SRC would like to thank everyone who has supported them in raising funds for this exciting piece of equipment.

Year 6 – The Effect of Natural Disasters on the Earth’s Surface

On Tuesday 13 June, Year 6 went out to Windermere. They were greeted by Mr Callaghan, who discussed all things volcanoes! This was extremely fitting as Year 6 had recently researched  volcanoes in order to complete their Informative Writing assessment.

Students formed groups and used shovels to dig a hole into the ground. A drink bottle full of water, food colouring, vinegar and dish soap was placed into the hole and students covered over the drink bottle, replicating a volcano.

Once all volcanoes were built, a concoction of baking soda and water was mixed together and poured into the spout of the drink bottle. It was amazing to watch all of the liquid erupt out and onto the ground.

Year 5 Bathurst Goldfields Excursion

Year 5 enjoyed a day at the Bathurst Goldfields on Friday 2 June. Although it was the second day of winter, the weather was a beautiful sunny 19 degrees. The goldfields at Bathurst is a reconstruction of a gold mining village showing students a mine, a working stamper battery crushing ore, operative steam engines, a miner's hut, a blacksmith's forge, and gold panning. All students enjoyed the gold panning experience, going home with a sample of gold.

CWA Speeches

Congratulations to Elizabeth Miliken, Janagan Kandeepan, Georgiana Saran and Harry Kensit who represented our school at the CWA Public Speaking last week. From all accounts our children were a credit to the school and their families. They spoke confidently and entertained the judges and the audience. It was lovely to be given feedback on how beautifully the children wore their uniforms and carried themselves in public.

Felicitations to Janagan in Year 4 who won his section. Janagan has now been invited to participate in the Inter Group Public Speaking Competition on 19 June in Narromine and we wish him all the very best.
