Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

The first few weeks back after the holidays have flown by and it’s been great to see the students settle back in. There are some improvements that could be made to the uniform and we always appreciate your support in this. If there are financial difficulties please contact (or ask your children to contact) Student Services where we will be able to assist.

On the last day of term two we took nearly all of our year 8's to Lady Northcote YMCA day camp out near Bacchus Marsh. While the weather wasn’t cooperating our kids had a great day participating in outdoor activities such as archery, ball tossing/balancing, basketball and tennis challenges and much more! We all had a big lunch together, (I made 6 loaves of Nutella sandwiches which were a hit) played some more games and then headed back to school. A big thanks to Ms Webster and Mr Nilsen for organising and running the day.

In other year 8 news we’d like to welcome Ms Hawke as the new coordinator, Ms Hawke is very experienced working with young people and will be an asset to the team.

Year 9 students should be receiving their NAPLAN results in the mail over the coming week. I’m not too sure how long Australia Post takes to deliver items at the moment but if you don’t receive these by the end of week 4 you can contact the school.

The school has just completed its annual Pathways Week and all students should have made their web preferences for 2024 subjects. Thanks to the families that participated in the Subject and Program Expo, it was great to see and talk to you about our 2024 offerings. Thank you also to all the teachers that stayed back until 6.30pm and who put together all the program demonstrations.

We are all looking forward to a productive and enjoyable term three.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8

Year 8 Report

Despite a chilly start to the term, the year 8’s have had a great start to term 3.

They have completed their elective selections and I would like to thank the parents and carers who supported their child with this. Your child's pathway is important and it is a combined effort with the College, students and families.

There are quite a few of our students partaking in this year’s musical Legally Blonde. The musicals give our students a chance to showcase their talents. A very big thank you to Mrs. Walters and her team for once again putting together for running a spectacular show.

On August the 17th the Humanities department will be running Night at the Museum. This is held yearly and is a great way for you to come along and see what is going on in the class room. Students create, display and inform a museum piece about something they have learned this year.  Expect to see lots of volcanoes, medieval torture devices, Polynesian rafts, and Aztec pyramids.

Congratulations to our students of the week for last term:

Bella Du 8G,                                              Aakash Kasha 8J,

Cambell Butler 8H,                                  Ivy Bui 8G,

Sofia Nan Soe Yadnar Thin 8G,           Jitin Kadagala 8B

Mathias Semi-Green 8L

These students have strived to be a good example to peers, contributed to a positive learning environment, actively listened to their teachers and have tried their best to be examples to others!

This term 8G will be the first class to take over and run assemblies. Thank you to 8G and Mr Benjamin for starting off what will be a great tradition and I’m sure a set a high standard for other classes to follow.

As always, we look forward to supporting your students to have high expectations of themselves and others.

Please don't hesitate to contact your child's tutor teacher or myself if you have any questions.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9

Our 2023 Year 9's have started Term 3 in an excitable, enthusiastic manner. There has been plenty going on in our cohort to kickstart the term. A few weeks ago our students had a visit from WestJustice to present to the students all about their rights in the workplace, as part of our Career unit in tutor.  The students were visibly engaged, asking a range of questions and learning all about their next steps into employment.

This has led into an exciting time of year, where our Year 9's start to look ahead to 2024 and select their subjects for Year 10. To assist with this, they have participated in the 2023 Pathways week. During this week, students have engaged with all sorts of Tertiary and Alternative educational settings, getting all the information they need to prepare for selecting their 2024 subjects.

As always, our weekly assemblies have continued to be engaging, connecting and fun as a cohort. We have taken to time to recognise people’s hard work, reinforce school values and take part in many exciting challenges! In the last few weeks, it has been great to see our assemblies led by our tutor classes, with 9B, 9C, 9G, 9J and 9K doing a wonderful job of leading our assemblies. We can't wait to see what the remaining classes have prepared for us!

A big congratulations to our students of the week so far for Term 3

Week 1  - Alex Georgas

Week 2 – Joriana Kable

Week 3 – Kathleen Roberts and Hollie Nibloe

We continue to enjoy our learning journey together and look forward to see what the remainder of Term 3 will bring.

If you have any questions or queries please contact your child’s tutor teacher or myself.
