Visit from Tim Pallas MP

On Friday the 28th of July, Wyndham Central College was privileged to have Tim Pallas MP – Member for Werribee and Victorian Treasurer visit our College to speak and inspire our students.

Mr. Pallas started his visit with an Acknowledgement of Country at our Yarning Circle and met our students who proudly spoke about how and why they built the amazing Yarning Circle.

He then visited the AVID Centre to speak with VCE Legal and Business students about his role as Treasurer, how the government develops state budgets, and how parliament works. The students were thoroughly engaged and then had the opportunity to ask questions about leadership, how the state government develops new laws, and how the state government supports businesses and entrepreneurship in our local community. A special thanks to VCE Legal and Business teachers for their support of the Q & A session.

Visiting our new Learning Resource Centre was next on the itinerary and Mr. Pallas spoke to our students about the importance and joy of reading. Many of our year 7 and 8 students have been participating in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge. The Challenge requires students to read 15 books over Term 2 and 3.  There are still 40 days left in the Challenge and we encourage our students to keep reading.

A special mention must go to Connie Addamo who spoke about her favourite books and why she enjoys reading. Well done, Connie!

Certificates were awarded to the following students to celebrate and acknowledge their commitment to reading regularly:

Year 7: Connie Addamo, Liam Jury, Nathan Palad, Terry Cai

Year 8: Kayden Morton

Year 9: Claudette Addamo, Kathleen Roberts, Hollie Nibloe, Hsarehlwat Htoo

Year 10: Rachel Dut, Mahima Baskar, Brastik Ulutupu-Vaasili, Su Ze Ba Ler, Ma Ma Tun

Year 11: Chantelle Hughes, Tafirene Timo

Everyone then enjoyed a morning tea of sandwiches, fruit, and cake. It was a lovely way to end a busy week.

Prior to leaving, Mr. Pallas also visited Wyndham Central College’s Community Hub, where Kristy Gray discussed how the College engages our school community. Kristy spoke about the programs that run through the Community Hub to support students and families.

A special thanks to our Principal Class for their support.
