Sport Coordinator's Report

Senior Basketball

Senior Boys Basketball had a great day out, playing 3 games.

Senior Boys played their first game against The Grange and played quite well. The Grange were a strong offensive unit, however, Wyndham was able to stay in the game trailing by 8 points at the half. Dylan Roberts played excellent defense, whilst Harun Noor ran the offense extremely well. The Grange won 32-18. Game two saw Wyndham play Werribee who were also a strong offensive team. Dylan Roberts, Bol Ring and Bol Mayhom creating cohesion and some offensive drive. Werribee won 42-21. Finally, for a 5th vs 6th match, Wyndham played Good News Lutheran to which saw Dylan Roberts score a career high 35 points. All students played good basketball and worked together well.

Great job team!

Intermediate Basketball

On the 24th of July the year 9 and 10 boys played in the basketball interschool sports and fought all the way through. They played their hearts out fighting for every basket but unfortunately lost to Tarneit Senior College making us just miss out in playing in the grand final against Hoppers Crossing. We beat Werribee, Tarneit P-9 and Good News Secondary College, but couldn’t pull through against Tarneit Seniors. Thanks to all the schools for participating and making it an enjoyable day and thanks to all the parents supporting us. Also, thanks to Josh for scoring all our games.

Interschool Sports Soccer

On Wednesday the 26th July the Year 9 & 10 girls and one year 8 girl competed in the Interschool Sport Soccer. We took a combined squad of 17 FDP and non-FDP students to Keilor Sports park in Keilor to play in the 2023 Interschool Sport Soccer Regional titles.

We played 3 games, results below.

Group Games - Pool B - Girls

WCC 3

Geelong HS 0

Match summary: We started off a bit nervous after not having played a competitive game for 2 months, but we found our rhythm quickly and controlled play throughout the remainder of the game. Layla Hawli (10A) scored a hattrick getting on the end of some fantastic trough balls. Our midfield maestros Shar Kwe Shee Moo (10E) had two assists and Samantha Raka (8A) provided the other assist.

WCC 0

Staughton College 1

Match Summary: It was a very scrapy, physical and even game. There weren’t a lot of chances on goal from both sides. Unfortunately, a misdirected pass in defence from our team went straight to a Staughton player who then loaded up and hit the top bin from outside the penalty box. There was some controversy when the Staughton goalkeeper fumbled the ball into her own net in what looked like a clear goal, The linesman awarded the goal but the referee overruled the linesman and judged it to not have crossed the line. This decision effectively eliminated us from contesting the final.

Final

WCC 3

Williamstown HS 0

Match Summary: We attacked from the outset and got an early goal in the first half through Layla Hawli (10A).  Layla Hawli then finished of a fantastic through ball from Elizabeth Jonah (9E) who went on a mazy run from defence into the midfield. Shar Kwe Shee Moo (10E) scored the final goal from a cut back by Layla Hawli and great lead up play by our midfielders Dah Ler Say (10G) Eh Moe Ta Dah Htoo (10G).

Highlights from the day

  1. 5 Boys from the FDP attended and were linesmen for various games on the day. They convenor and referees were full of high praises for the boys and their fairness in making decisions.
  2. Our girls once again cheered on other schools while watching games and the coaches from these schools once again praised our girls’ spirited support and behaviour.
  3. Some parents also made the trip to Keilor to watch the girls play, and I would like to thank them for their support on the day.

Over the two match days (six games), our girls scored a total of 16 goals, kept 5 clean sheets, and only conceded 1 goal. Please extend your congratulations to the girls when you see them around the school grounds. They were again outstanding leaders both on and off the field throughout the competition.
