Principal's Report

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Thanks to those families who were able to book, and attend, a parent-teacher conference over the last two days. I hope you found this valuable. If you weren't able to attend these conferences due to illness, work commitments, etc, I would encourage you to contact your child's teacher and find a mutually convenient time to meet.

NAPLAN Results

Individual NAPLAN student reports were received by the school this afternoon for students who participated in the tests earlier this year i.e. Grade 3 and 5 students. We will send these home to parents/carers tomorrow, along with an information brochure that details the changes made to how these are reported this year.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact me and I'll be happy to help.

Estimation Challenge set to begin…

In week 4 of this term, we are going to introduce an Estimation Challenge! Students will have the opportunity to record their estimation in class and then see a challenge play out at Assembly that week. We are hoping it will create some great mathematical conversations at home and at school, whilst also developing our student's estimation skills. Keep your eye out for some posters around the school and a Compass post to families at the beginning of week 4 to check out what the first challenge is. It will involve the teachers… and students might even get a say about which teachers should complete the challenge! We look forward to seeing who can put their estimating skills to the test and get closest to the answer!

2023 Student Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)

Once again, we have received some excellent results from the recent AtoSS for Grade 4-6 children. The figures below relate to the percentage of students who had a positive response to the questions for each element of the survey. For example, 97% of students indicated a positive response to the questions relating to 'Effective classroom behaviour', leaving 3% of the students indicating a neutral or negative response. I have included the average percentage of 'like school' (in blue) as a means of comparison. Like schools are those schools that have a similar profile to SGPS. I have also included our results from 2021 and 2022.

A summary of the results are below.

School Crossing

The school crossing is supervised from 8.00am-8.50am and 3.00pm-3.40pm by our friendly crossing supervisor, Sam. Please make sure your children always use the crossing when they are crossing Spring Gully Road during these times. We regularly observe dangerous situations and want to ensure all of our children are safe.
