Writing: During our Writing sessions over Weeks 1 and 2, our students have been focusing on Narratives. We have specifically examined how we can plan a narrative with a 5 finger plan, build tension in various ways and use complex connectives. Over weeks 3 and 4 we will continue to work on narrative writing pieces.
Maths: Our focus for Mathematics for the first 3 weeks of Term 3 is learning about time. Students have been engaged in, and had fun with, creating their own 10-day trip around parts of Australia. They have had to determine the time it takes them to reach all selected destinations, practicing fluency with timetables and converting between 12 hour time and 24 hour time.
Reading: We have started a new novel for our Reader’s Notebook this term that links in with our Science learning. The book is called ‘George’s Secret Key to the Universe’. We have made predictions and looked at vocabulary so far.
Topic and STEAM: This Term during Topic, our focus is Science. Our students will be participating in a range of activities across the term that involve Change of Matter, Light, Space and Livings Things.
In STEAM the Grade 5’s have been introduced to Robotics and the Grade 6’s are learning about Physics and Engineering.
Camp reminder: The Grade 6 Anglesea camp is in Week 5 of this term. 9th – 11th of August. All students have received a medical form and a packing list. Please bring the medical forms back to Mr Greer as soon as possible.
