Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Camp

It was such a delight to join our happy campers down at Queenscliff last week. The children were so very happy engaging in marine experiences, enjoying the great camp facilities and even splashing through the waves in the sunshine! The weather was fabulous, the staff were sensational and the kids had a ball! I must acknowledge our staff for the time taken from their personal commitments to attend and our staff back at school, ensuring that our Year Three students continued their learning throughout the week.

Thankyou

I would like to thank our families for such a positive response to my appointment as the substantive principal at our school. It is such a great honour and a privilege to be appointed to this position, and I can assure our school community that that I am in this position to continue our journey of school improvement for the benefit of our students, families and staff. I am always more than happy to meet, listen and support our families at any time. Please don't hesitate to contact me through our administration office to book an appointment to discuss any issues, successes or concerns you wish to share.

Miners Rest Primary School Official Facebook Page

It's coming and promises to reflect all that we are at Miners Rest K-6. This communication platform will showcase past events, celebrate achievements, promote upcoming opportunities and also communicate reminders to our families. There will be photos to capture special events, learning experiences and special events. This communication platform will reflect our school values of Courage, Kindness and Respect - the key traits we value and expect from our students, staff and community. The platform will also be current, inclusive and positive - a communication platform that we, as a school community, are proud to belong to. I am very grateful to the Miners Rest School Council, and a group of proactive parents that are committed to making this page reflect our wonderful school and kindergarten. Stay tuned!

Passive Play Spaces

Works have started to create our beautiful passive play spaces outside of the Foundation classrooms in Area 3. We are looking forward to a giant chessboard, Twister, hopscotch and a friendship toadstool to engage our children in alternative play experiences. Along with these new pieces, we also have our existing playgrounds made structurally sound and safe, as well as completed with a synthetic turf base for all. We just need to cross our fingers for some good weather to allow for the contractors to complete these exciting works.

Student Reports

Our teachers are compiling student learning reports that will reflect the first semester of learning for 2023. Families will receive these reports in the final week of school, along with a personal reflection of learning and achievement from their child/ren. Upon receiving your child's report, you will also receive a survey to gauge your opinion on aspects of our student reports. Given that our new reporting format has been in place for 18 months, it is now time to determine whether this is the right format for informing families of student learning achievement and progress. More information about the survey will be provided in next week's newsletter. Your opinion and feedback matters to us!

Assembly

We look forward to seeing our families at our school assembly this week at 2:45 pm.

Enjoy a safe, warm and happy long weekend,
