First Communion 5.0

After five attempts to celebrate First Holy Communion, everything was set for a lovely celebration: Children prepared and dressed beautifully, everyone who needed to be available was, no COVID lockdown, what could possibly go wrong!

Well the heavens opened and within minutes the church flooded. This just wasn't meant to be.

However, Fr John came to the rescue and organsied the celebration to be switched to St Augustine's Yarraville. By 5:28pm all families and guests had been redirected to St Augustine's and the celebration commenced just a mere 28 minutes behind schedule.

It was a beautiful Mass and although Fr John had to battle through booming claps of thunder (some right on queue) and a power blackout as well, our children finally received the Sacrament of First Eucharist.

Congratulations to all children who have been so understanding and accepting of the times and to all families for their understanding, flexibility and for presenting their children so beautifully to receive First Holy Communion.

I'd also like to thank Miss Sarah, Mr Marks and Ms Katrina for their preparation of the children and to Miss Wilkinson for her co-ordination of the Sacrament (and for her umpteenth reprint of booklets and certificates).

COVID-19 School Operations Update

I may have spoken too early last week, as on Monday morning (as you would all be aware) we had to enact our COVID-Safe Plan for the first time.

May I take this opportunity to thank all families who needed to collect children from school for the promptness in which they replied to requests and for their understanding and compassion shown to families who may have been further impacted.

To our Year 5/6 children and their teachers, can I thank you for the mature and calm manner in which you responded to the situation and to all staff who were affected who did what was required and returned on-site at the earliest opportunity.

I must also commend our office staff who responded ever so quickly and calmly in communicating details to families via email and phone and compiling relevant databases.

48 hours later we are back into it and working as hard as ever!

May we keep in our prayers families who have been directly affected by the virus whether that be due to the events of Monday or through community infection. I know through communications to parents that all our families have been extremely diligent and forthcoming and have enacted all appropriate COVID-safe practices so it is important to continue to be supportive of all our school families who have had to deal directly with the virus.

Christmas Dance Party

I hope you have all marked in your diaries the date and details of our Christmas Dance Party.

This will be an event not to be missed. Gather up your picnic gear, put your dancing shoes on and dress to impress.

Gates will open at 5:00pm for families to gather in the central courtyard for a picnic (BYO everything) and catch up on old times. At 6:00pm get ready to boogie as the Footsteps Dance Crew will lead you all  (parents and children) in some dance routines and crazes. At 7:00pm take a breather as we present and farewell our Year 6 Graduates before drawing the winners of our Christmas Raffle (see below) And you never know... there might even be a visit from a man in red!

We hope this proves a wonderful opportunity to finish off the year on a high. Remember to BYO everything.

Fees and Levies

Thank you to all families who are up-to-date with Fees and Levies for 2021. These needed to be finalised by yesterday (unless you have set up a payment plan) so outstanding accounts need to be promptly finalised.

Late Mail (Staffing Update)

At the end of this year we will also be bidding farewell to Miss Anastasia Dullard (Year 5/6A) who has taken up a teaching position at St Raphael's Preston. We wish Anastasia well and hope the skills and knowledge she has learnt and developed at Corpus Christi School in her first year of teaching sets her up for further success moving forward.

We will endeavour to fill the position as soon as possible.

Have a wonderful week

God Bless

Anthony Hyde
