On Tuesday 30th November, the new Dolphin Research Institute Ambassadors for 2022 travelled to Sorrento Pier to board the Moonraker boat.

Harvey, Luciana, Pera and Henry suited up in wetsuits, fins, a snorkel and a mask and practised safety procedures with several other schools.

Our first stop was Pope’s Eye. Here they swam and saw a variety of fish under the water and Australian Gannets on the rocks.

Next, they went to Chinaman’s Hat. There were a lot of Australian Fur Seals on the structure. The seals dived into the water and were inquisitive, even swimming around and under them.

The next part of the trip was searching for the elusive Bottlenose Dolphins. They saw a few from far away and three of them were with a calf.

On the way back to Sorrento they were thrilled to see a dolphin swimming alongside the boat.

This boat trip was a great way to start the Ambassadors’ year as DRI Leaders and motivate them to become strong champions for our marine environment.
