6 into 7 Orientation

It was wonderful to meet the 2022 cohort, from 28 feeder Primary schools, that will be the first year 7s stepping foot on the Hawdon Street site. There was great excitement as students arrived at Wanganui Park, gathered in their new Home Groups and set about to experience some tabloid sports, getting-to-know you activities and a tour of the new GSSC buildings and grounds.

Our 2022 School and Neighbourhood Captains joined with Home Group teachers, Multicultural education aides, Koorie educators and Wellbeing support staff as they moved through the three activities, building those important relationships. Recess and lunch provided a time to find old friends and discuss the new forms they were in, all the while munching on some fresh fruit, a sausage in bread and some delicious rumballs!

The tours of our new site proved an eye-opener as students were able to visit the state-of-the-art facilities and walk through their Neighbourhoods. The colours of the decals of the front entrance, linoleum on stairs, the furniture, the colours of numbers on doors and the patterns on carpets were all signs to let them know they were in the right place. By the end of the tour students in Bayuna Neighbourhood, Loddon House (Forest Green) knew that EG.13 stood for ‘Building E, ground floor, room 13’. While we may all expect to occasionally lose our way in 2022, it was comforting to know that there would be administrative staff at each entrance and staff offices on each floor. A helping hand is always going to be close by.

Greater Shepparton Secondary College welcomes our newest students and their families to our school community. We look forward to getting to know you next year and hope to see you at one of our Welcome nights.
