The Leadership Team

Dear Families,

This is our last newsletter for 2021 and it marks the end of an era with the Mooroopna, McGuire and Wanganui Campuses closing to GSSC staff and students on the 17th December. I know many of you will have very fond memories of attending these campuses when they were individual schools and no doubt you have many nostalgic stories to tell that will continue to be re-told over time. These schools will form an important part of our history that has helped to shape our new college.

As we close these doors for the final time, it is with great excitement that we open the doors to our new contemporary, state-of-the art facilities on Hawdon St, signaling the beginning of a new era. This will see the creation of new stories and some very important and positive traditions for GSSC that may last for many years.

To enhance these amazing facilities, we have developed a new leadership structure I would like to share with you that will support the House and Neighbourhood concept.

Your child will belong to a House in one of the three Neighbourhoods that have the indigenous names of Biyala, Dharnya and Bayuna.

Our new College is a magnificent, custom-designed facility to deliver big school opportunities and the nurturing environment of a small school atmosphere. As your child enters their Neighbourhood through their own House door, they will be helping to write the first chapter in the story of Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

Transition Day

It was exciting to have our 2022 Year 7 students participate in a range of activities on the Wanganui Campus last Tuesday as part of their orientation program. The highlight of the day was the visit to the new site, where the students were able to see first-hand, the amazing new facilities that await them. I would like to especially thank our College Captains and Neighbourhood Captains, Skyler Norton and Beth Gray (Biyala Neighbourhood), Ella Rei Dunlop and Dante Sinclair-Dealy (Dharnya Neighbourhood) and Rowan Farren and Olivia Judd (Bayuna Neighbourhood) for welcoming our Year 7 students and helping out on the day. They are already demonstrating what true leaders they really are and what great ambassadors they will be for our College.

GSSC Awards Night

Our College will celebrate the achievements of our students this year at our Awards Night at Eastbank on Wednesday 15th December, commencing at 6:30pm. This is our first whole school awards night and is a significant event in our school calendar.

We are so very grateful for the support of local businesses and industries that have donated awards to recognise our students’ achievements. This has added to the importance and prestige of these awards and will become part of the significant traditions of GSSC.

I would like to sincerely thank the following businesses, industries and individuals who have so generously donated to these.

As I close this report, I would like to sincerely thank you, our families, for your support throughout the year. We have certainly weathered a number of storms, the biggest of these being COVID-19, but together we have achieved much success throughout the year.

On behalf of all the staff here at GSSC I would like to wish all our families a very safe and happy Christmas and New Year. We look forward to seeing you all on our new site in 2022.
