Year 5/6 News
Farewell
It is always with some sadness at this time of the year that we send our Year 6 students off into the rigours of Secondary School. Thursday night was a particularly emotional time as the students took the opportunity to reflect on their time at St Raphael's. On behalf of all the teachers it has been really rewarding to witness the growth and development of each and everyone of the students and we wish them well as they set off into the sunset!
Thank You
We would like to offer a big thank you to all the parents and families for their ongoing support during the year. There have obviously been some challenges, but there is still a strong feeling of progress and achievement for the students as we reach the of the year. This would not have been possible without a determined effort from many and we are grateful to all who have contributed in some way.
What A Week!
It feels like it's been an actioned pack end to the year with Headstart/Transition Week, Sports Day, the overnight camp experience and the excursions! Now this week we look forward to Graduation Night, the InterHouse Sports Tournament and then our final day on Wednesday.
It has been great to see the students having so much fun and getting back to enjoying normal school life. Please enjoy the pictures and reviews of some of these events.
URBN Surf
On Friday 10th December the Year 5/6 students attended a school excursion to URBN Surf in Tullamarine. As the bus approached the facility the students were visibly excited by the sight of the massive wave pools and the inviting beachy environment. Students were divided into two groups for a short surf lesson, discussing how to move from a lying down position on the board, to the knees and standing.
The groups then walked to either ends of the wave pools and after a safety conversation took the blue waters. Students showed their physical strength negotiating their heavy longboards and paddling out to the middle of the wave pool. Some students caught a wave on their stomachs, while others achieved a 'stand and surf' position to a round of applause by those watching on shore.
After nearly two hours of laughter and high energy, students started to get tired, hungry and prepared to call it a day!! As the students changed and got ready to leave, they chatted and discussed what a great experience the day was and were proud of their efforts and determination. URBN Surf was definitely a great day out!
