Myrniong - ELC to Yr 6

A Challenging Week

Local COVID-19 cases have meant a challenging week for us all.  Thank you to our College staff, parents and students for the way they have conducted themselves and supported others.  Resilience and the Berry House Service theme of ‘Kindness’ have certainly been shown and felt in abundance.  Delving into the work of mindset coach Ben Crowe…

‘If we’re feeling overwhelmed at the moment, more likely than not, our focus of attention is on something we can’t control but wanting to control it, which causes instant anxiety.  Especially if we’re worried about the results, the future: when is this going to end? How many people are going to suffer? When can I get some certainty back in my life?” all these things we can’t control.  Accepting that and focusing our attention back on the things we can control can help us feel less overwhelmed.  But there are other techniques we can utilise as well, such as creating ‘courage mantras’.  Example…

-‘I’m a warrior, not a worrier’

-‘I’ve got this!’

2022 Booklists

The 2022 Junior School Prep to Year Six booklists are now available for parents to purchase online.  A reminder that Warrnambool Books has changed hands and is now trading under the Campion Education banner.  Each year, Junior School teachers review their booklists and look to reduce the cost to our parents.  With a major focus in 2022 on ‘The Writing Revolution’, all classes have dispensed with the Grammar texts.  Parents will be required to access their existing account or create a new account, selecting the College Junior School, and the relevant year level.  Junior School families will be emailed a “How To’ sheet with instructions.  Parents can opt to collect the book boxes from Warrnambool, or have them mailed out to their residential address.

Berry House Service

Congratulations to Berry House students, Mrs. Milich, Miss See and Mrs. Drummond on their successful 2021 House Service.  This recorded Service focused on the theme of ‘Kindness’.  We were entertained with thoughtful quotes, examples from our Myrniong playground, kindness songs and a wonderful story ‘Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed’.  Special thanks to Mr. Leversha and Mr. Clode for their excellent production and editing work.

2022 Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 InitiaLit Programme

Next Year we are excited about the roll out of a new Early Years Literacy approach to Reading and Spelling. InitiaLit is an evidence-based whole-class literacy program which will provide children with the essential core knowledge and strong foundations to become successful readers and writers.  In the context of a Response to Intervention framework, InitiaLit is a Tier 1 program, designed to be delivered to whole classes by classroom teachers.  InitiaLit is a reading and spelling program with a synthetic phonics approach alongside a rich literature and vocabulary component.  It is aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and focuses on consistent instruction across year groups.

2022 Swim Intensive Programme

We will again run our Swim Intensive programme in 2022.  An influx of bookings for Southern Grampians pools has meant we have had to push our dates forward, commencing this important program on Day 1 of 2022. Swim Intensive will run for 7 school days, from Wednesday 2 February through to Thursday 10 February. Preps will start their sessions on Friday, 4 February.   The Junior School House Swimming Sports will take place on Friday 11 February.
