STRONG PERFORMANCES AT DISTRICT ATHLETICS

Last Thursday 29th April, we had a team of fifty seven students representing our school at the District Athletics staged on the Leongatha Velodrome. The Little Athletics Club prepared the ground and set up the equipment and they are to be congratulated on their excellent presentation.

Our team competed very well and we were very pleased with our efforts and results. Once again our students conducted themselves well both in behaviour and sportsmanship.

The school finished third in the aggregate shield and finished second in the handicap shield by point eight of one point. Close indeed!

We had two individual award winners on the day being:

Aiden Launder who was the Under Nine Boy Champion and

Zara Gannon who received the Ric Walters Medallion for the fastest female runner in the under ten 1500 metres race. Zara's performance was even more significant considering that there was a similar under eleven and under twelve event.

Students who placed in the top three in events have now qualified for the next stage of  competition which will be the Division Level to be held at Casey Fields on the 10th September. Under nine students are not included at Division unless their performance was better than an under ten.

Winter sports results - Round 1 played at Mary MacKillop College

Football:

St Laurence brought home victory with our first win of the season against Foster Primary School.   St Laurence’s football team had a good defense and forward which gave us a 20 to 0 goal win. This was a good and supportive match and well played by Foster.

Netball A

The final score was 24 - 12 with Foster gaining victory over St Laurence's but they gave it their all.  Both teams were evenly matched but St Laurence’s shots just didn’t want to go in.  Both teams played a fantastic game, but it’s only the first game.

Netball B

The first round was another very good supportive game.  St Laurence's come out on top with a win. Both teams had a good go though with a final score of  5 -1.

Soccer:

St Laurence’s soccer team had a loss of 1 goal against Foster.  St Laurence was in the lead through the majority of the game but Foster made a comeback. This was a well played game and a good effort from both teams with an ending score of 4 - 3.
