STUDENT VOICE: STUDENT PANELS
by Sophie O'Shea
On Thursday 4th March, TSC held our first Student-Led Panel. This was an optional professional development opportunity for our teaching staff. Instead of being run by fellow teachers or academics, however, it was run by the real experts – our students!
This Student Voice initiative was a panel discussion led by five students, who shared their expertise on how teachers can create positive classroom culture through better teacher-student relationships. The students shared with teachers ideas about how teachers can connect with students, foster great relationships, and the incredible effect these relationships can have on their learning and wellbeing.
Thank you to Aman Singh, Jacinta Nui, Qamar Fatima, Tanima Shori and Alphoncine Jule for lending your time and expertise to support teachers. Here is some of the feedback received for our fabulous student experts:
Thank you for expressing yourselves in front of the teachers, I know that can be hard to do. I noticed that you all believed in the importance of student-teacher relationships, and I agree completely with you. Because of what you have all said, I will continue to build upon the Classroom Culture as it's "what we make". Thank you again!
Really great topic to discuss with the students and get their point of view and opinions on it all!
There was great discussion between students and they shared authentic responses to the questions. I think the panel format was refreshing. Looking forward to more PD like this.
