Principal's News

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back to all of our students, staff and families. I trust families were able to make the most of the Easter holidays. Children and staff all turned up refreshed and raring to go.

I wonder if parents noticed how tired the kids were last term? We certainly did. During the holidays friends who teach in other schools throughout Victoria also reported that it was a tricky period for both primary and secondary students as they re-adjusted to the 9:00 - 3:15, 5 days a week routine and the demands of a busy school week. To me, this has been the most noticeable impact of missing so much school last year due to the pandemic lockdowns, the children coping with the busy routines of daily school life.

I think in the fourth term last year we were all so happy to be back together a certain amount of euphoria carried us deep into the term.

So, well rested we are looking forward to a fantastic term.

AFTER SCHOOL PARKING AND TRAFFIC

Our Preps are here full time from now on.

THIS CHANGE ALWAYS MAKES THE ROADS AROUND OUR SCHOOL BUSIER IN THE AFTERNOON.

We would ask parents to kindly leave the parking along Hart Street, immediately in front of our school, vacant for families who have a child in Prep. All other families should use either our Gym Gate exit and park along Pound Road OR Hart Street (either side) but north of Pound Road in front of Trinity College if you want to collect children by car.

CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK This term we celebrate Catholic Education Week, in this year when nationally we are celebrating 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia. Our Religious Education Leader Juile Leonard will keep you up to date with events planned to celebrate these occasions as they come over the horizon.

N.A.P.L.A.N. We are planning for the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy to recommence in May this year. Children from Grades 3 and 5 are expected to participate in this national testing program. However parents may choose for their children not to participate. If this is your decision you need to let your child’s teacher know.

My approach to the N.A.P.L.A.N. tests has always been low key. While our teachers will ensure the children are familiar with what the tests may look like they are not the focus of our teaching. - We have much more important things to do. Parents are encouraged to take the same approach, the last thing we need is for 8 and 9 year olds to be anxious about test scores.

No special preparation at home or school is necessary, despite what those with programs to sell might tell parents.

SCHOOL PHOTOS Photos are being taken this Friday, April 23rd. Please see inside today’s newsletter for details about uniform etc.
