NATIONAL RIDE2SCHOOL DAY

On Friday 19th March, it was Ride2School Day and what a wonderful day it was!

It was great to see 264 students ride their scooters and bikes to school.

Thank you to everyone who supported the day. I know many of you (including parents, carers and grandparents) helped your child pedal and push up and down the hills in the morning and after school! And possibly you carried bikes and scooters in your cars as you drove half way to school. THANK YOU – it made the morning. There were so many excited children and I loved seeing so many smiles.

A big thank you to the Grade 6 Sports Leaders and the following families who helped make the morning run so smoothly; as well at the end of the day, making it easy for students to get their bikes back out of the hall.

THANK YOU to the Pezzano Family (3RO, 6JK, 6NK), the Hilker family (6NK), the Ashdown-Moore family (6JK), the Tran family (1ET) and the Bell family (4JT). I apologise if I have missed anyone.

Thank you for dusting off your bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades and getting the 264 riders ready for Ride2School Day!

Walk and Wheel Wednesday in Term 2

In Term 2 Walk and Wheel Wednesday continues …except there is a competition being run by the Boroondara Council!

Schools in the Boroondara Council compete against one other for the Walk and Wheel Wednesday Boroondara Council Trophy and there are prizes!

Prizes include a smoothie bike visit for the school with the highest proportion of students Walking and Wheeling, as well as many useful individual prizes such as water bottles, umbrellas and bike lights that can be won.

Each class will continue to record their walk or wheel data as a whole class and individual student data will be gathered too.

So be ready for another busy term of Walking or Wheeling on a Wednesday!

Dr Cranky's is starting on Wednesday 5th May

On Wednesday mornings from the 5th of May, you will see Alexander’s dad Michael, (from 1ET), repairing bikes that have been recycled.

Dr Cranky’s is part of the BREAKS (Bicycle Recycling and Engagement for Active Kids at Schools) project. It is a partnership with the Boroondara Council, local schools, and VicHealth.  Dr Cranky’s has been helping schools since 2014 to recycle over 2400 bikes at 15 schools.

It is a program that will support more students to ride more often. It does this by helping parent volunteers like Michael recycle and repair bikes within the community to ensure every child has access to a working bike.

If you would like to assist or if you have an old bike that you would like to donate to the program, please contact Mrs Ballot or Mrs Tainsh.

Mrs Tainsh will be down helping Michael on Wednesday morning’s from 8:30am in front of the hall. The more parents we have to help and the more bikes we have to repair and recycle, then more children will have access to working bikes.

We look forward to seeing you drop by and possibly join us in repairing bikes on Wednesday mornings from the 5th of May.
