Year 7 & 8  Girls Football

On the last Friday in April the Year 7 and 8 girls played football in the interschool sports competition. During this competition they played 3 games, one against Sale Catholic College, one against Lavalla Catholic College and their final game against Kurnai College. During the first game the girls played Catholic College, during this game the girls began to better understand how the games are played and the fast-paced nature of it. Unfortunately, they lost this game but were supportive and encouraging of each other the entirety of the match. In the second match they played Lavalla and again their willingness to go after the ball and move around the ground increased and improved with each minute. At this stage students were really beginning to understand their strengths on the field, they lost this second game but were ready for the challenge of their final game. During the last game against Kurnai the girls were confident and comfortable with the game and their positions. Within minutes they had scored their first goal of both the game and the day. From there on they were outstanding in their game winning 32-0.

A fantastic day was had by all and the win was a great way to end.

Senior Boys Football

On Wednesday 5th May, we travelled to College Ovals in Sale for the Boys Senior Inter-school football. We played four very hard and challenging games as all players did their part and played well.

Our first game was against Traralgon College; despite only playing with 16 players, our players attacked the ball and contested a very close game, losing by just 1 goal. Our second game against Sale College mirrored the first; it was another close game. Although down by 5 goals in the first half, we fought back in the second and after amazing effort from the team we came to within 1 goal just as the siren sounded. Sadly we tired in the last two games and were soundly beaten by Kurnai College and Lavalla.

During the day we all had a good laugh and saw some amazing goals from our goal kickers:

Taj Threadgold- 4

Darcy Woodall- 3

Josh Pettigrew-Hughes  - 2

Xander Brooks- 2

Nick Johnson- 1

Thank you to Mr. Wallace for taking us and motivating us to try our hardest all day. And thank you to Billy Johnson and Billy Bowker for running drinks out to the players, boundary umpiring, and goal umpiring scoring for the whole day.

Six MSC teams headed to the Volleyball Victoria One Day Schools Cup in Dandenong. The students had to work hard all day as the games were tough and continuously challenged their volleyball skills, fitness, teamwork and resilience. The students played excellently and represented the College very well, even coming home with a few medals. The Year 8 Boys won gold, Yr 9/10 Girls won Silver and the Yr 7 Boys won Bronze. Although medals are great, I couldn’t be prouder of the way students conducted themselves on and off the court.

Also a big thank you to Lucy-Belle Macreadie and Brodie Jones for coaching junior teams. Congratulations to all teams involved.
