COVID Safe update and reminder about face masks travelling to and from school on buses.

Dear Maffra SC families, The Victorian Government has announced that additional COVIDSafe measures will be in place from 6pm on Tuesday 25 May, in metropolitan Melbourne. Metropolitan Melbourne consists of the following Local Government Areas (LGAs): Banyule, Bayside, Boroondara, Brimbank, Cardinia, Casey, Darebin, Frankston, Glen Eira, Greater Dandenong, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Kingston, Knox, Manningham, Maribyrnong, Maroondah, Melbourne, Melton, Monash, Moonee Valley, Moreland, Mornington Peninsula, Nillumbik, Port Phillip, Stonnington, Whitehorse, Whittlesea, Wyndham, Yarra, Yarra Ranges. Whilst these changes apply to metropolitan Melbourne please be aware of the requirements for our community.

In Regional Victoria:

  • Individuals aged 12 years and over (inclusive of staff, students, and visitors) must always carry a face mask – unless a lawful exception applies.
  • Face masks are mandatory for people aged 12 years and older on public transport and when in taxis or ride share vehicles or touring vehicles.
  • This includes travelling to and from school on public transport.
  • Schools will remain open with the current restrictions that are in place. There are no changes to existing density rules. Visitors and parents continue to be welcome at our school but must also observe face mask requirements. School camps and excursions in both metropolitan and regional Victoria can continue if face mask requirements are followed. These measures are aimed at giving health authorities the best opportunity to stop the spread of the virus in our community. Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to implement COVIDSafe practices at our school.

COMMUNITY BENEFIT PAYMENTS

 1st June 2021

 Dear Community Benefit Recipient,

We are about to complete the transition to our new Ritchies Card Loyalty program.

At the cessation of our original Community Benefit card program we committed to making regular monthly payments to organisations based on historical data.  Over the past 6 months we have commenced paying organisations either the average historical amount or the actual amount generated under the new system, whichever is the higher.

The payment amounts based on historical data will cease when we pay the June monthly totals in early July 2021.

Payment amounts will be made using the data generated from our new Ritchies Card from July 2021.

The payments we make to you from our new system will be entirely dependent on the number of members who have chosen your organisation as their preferred recipient.  This is based on the new Ritchies Card members who joined the program since September 2020.

It is very important that your organisation promotes the new Ritchies Card to your members to ensure that you are in a position to continue to receive payments from our community program. It is easy for your members to join either using a phone and downloading the Ritchies Card App from the App store or Google Play, or by going online to www.ritchies.com.au/loyalty using a tablet or desk top computer. They can then pick up a physical card available from our friendly cashiers in-store, which they then link to their app or online account. Once they have set up their account they can then nominate your organisation.

If your payments from us have just started in the last couple of months, or recently increased, congratulations. This means that since we rolled out the new program your organisation is being supported by your community members, family, and friends. Just keep promoting the system to your supporters and watch your monthly payments grow.

Yours faithfully,

RITCHIES STORES PTY. LTD.

Parents & Friends Committee

Maffra Secondary College is extremely fortunate to be well supported by a small but vibrant group of parents.

Parents & Friends Committee meets once a month and is open to any parent wishing to have a greater involvement in their child’s school. The committee has two core focuses – fundraising to support the purchase of key learning resources and supporting families in times of need. Parents Committee also play a major role in organising the annual Debutante Ball, guided by an appointed teacher - Carol Caffery, who coordinates the event.

All parents are encouraged to consider joining the committee. The Parents Club meet on the first Monday of each month (usually in the staff room, but new rules with COVID) excluding public and school holidays. This is a very informal setting with the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer attending. Usually the Principal or Assistant Principal also come along and any parents that join us. You don't have to be on the committee to be part of the P&F.  Everyone is welcome. We appreciate everyone is busy and your time is valuable so we like to keep meetings brief. Past members have the annual fundraising events well organised for ease in the future. There really isn't too much involved. Aside from meetings we generally have one fundraiser each term. In recent years these have included ;Debutante Ball, Greyhounds Race Night, Wood Raffle and Cake Stall.

More information can be obtained by contacting the school on (03) 5147 1790, or the Parents Committee president, Sandra Dekkers, at sandradekkers@bigpond.com

Explore Army Gap Year Opportunities

An Army Support Gap Year role is a unique opportunity for students to experience life in the Army, without needing to make a long-term commitment. The skills obtained through the Army Support Gap Year program will provide them valuable work and life experience, which are transferable to civilian employment opportunities. It enables Gap Year members personal and professional development for their next endeavour. In an Army Support role, recruits will learn logistic and task management skills to ensure the Army has the necessary supplies for exercises and humanitarian operations. Gap Year recruits can experience what life in the Army is like in one of three rewarding Army Support Gap Year roles. They may assist in the movement of supplies as a Driver, manage logistics as a Warehouse Coordinator, or become the point of contact within a unit as an Administration Assistant. Gap Year applications are closing soon. Explore more about the Army Support Gap Year. Contact Defence Force Recruiting on 13 19 01 for more information.
