School Council President - Hans Simon

School council held a term 2 meeting on Tuesday the 11th of May, this time in the College library to accommodate the ‘Annual Report to the Community’. This report is a mandated aspect of the annual governance cycle, and all families and community members are eligible to attend. This report is available on the college website for general access. The regular school council meeting (which College community members may also attend), was then held.

Discussed at this meeting were:

  • Endorsement of the 2022 application to the ‘School for Student Leadership’
  • Recognition of retiring school councilors
  • The awards assembly held with Darren Chester in attendance
  • Transport challenges for students not on a bus route to Maffra
  • The need to update policies in preparation for the upcoming four-year review

Subcommittee reports were also tabled, as well as all excursions, which were scrutinised for compliance and any required actions.

School Council is also particularly focussed on the ‘student voice’ in the College, and several proposals were raised by the student leadership. One was around the warmth of school uniforms in winter, which is raised most years. It was agreed that the current uniform options adequately provide for all of the discussed needs. A further proposal from the student body, is to enhance the presentation of the college by considering a mural on a suitable wall or surface. School Council endorsed a student-led process to look into themes, locations and costs, with Environment Day as the focus.

School Council is the representative body of the college community, with students, parents, staff and community members all represented. Strong participation by all stakeholders ensures strong directions, and we encourage all members of the college community to consider being involved. The next meeting is scheduled for June 15 at 17:30, please speak with any member of the School Council if you would like to attend and contribute to this important forum.

We are also looking for a couple of parents to fill vacancies on School Council. We meet twice a term on a Tuesday night so please contact the school or speak with any member if you would like any further information.
