Principal's Report

Ms Jennifer Roep

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

I thought we were tracking really well and on our way, to having a much less disrupted year, but how quickly things change. On behalf of the staff here, we are very appreciative of your support as we transition into remote and flexible learning 4.0. We are hopeful that this will be short lived and we can have students back onsite as soon as possible.

Until we hear more, the following plans are in place for students returning to remote and flexible learning:

Year 10-12 classes will run as normal. Teachers will video conference as outlined in the weekly plans which are uploaded to Compass. Exams, at this stage will continue so all students need to remain up to date with their learning and be preparing/revising for the upcoming exams.

Year 8 and 9 classes will follow their normal timetable. Staff will place the weekly learning plan on Compass for students to follow. Teachers may also run video conferencing during this time so students will need to look at Compass each day to see if they are required for this. Staff are accessible during their scheduled lesson as well.

Year 7 students should have access to a package of learning to complete during this 7-day circuit breaker. Students can email their teachers for help and all resources can be accessed via Compass. Some students may be familiar with using Microsoft Teams and can contact their teacher during their scheduled lesson via this if needed.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or year level leader if needed. Our wellbeing staff are available so please contact them via the front office at the College or direct email to the wellbeing staff member if needed.

Our Education Support Staff will touch base this week, similar to the weekly contact last year, so please take the time to have a chat and let them know if there are any further supports required or any information that needs to be passed on to specific staff.

As always, our IT technicians are also available if your child is having trouble accessing Compass, Teams or issues with their computer or the internet.

As a result of this circuit breaker, there may be some changes to upcoming school events, including interschool sport so please be patient as we navigate this and see what we can continue to attend or what needs to be postponed or cancelled. At all times we will keep the health and safety of our students and staff at the forefront of our decision making.

Inaugural Instrumental Music Performance

Last Wednesday night we held our first Instrumental Music Performance evening. Thank you to all of the parents, staff and community members that supported and celebrated the wonderful performances of our students. This could not have occurred without our amazing music staff who prepared our students and organised this wonderful event. Gerry Ciaveralla, Kim Gardiner, Ryan Lestrange and Donna Stemberger have been working with our students over the previous 3 months and whilst we have seen glimpses of the program at the Leadership Induction Assembly with the Year 10 Music class, the Grade 6 Parent Information evening with the Junior Band and the many rehearsals at lunchtimes throughout the term, it was fantastic to see all of them perform across the evening and do their absolute best. We definitely have some talented musicians that are being nurtured here at Maffra Secondary College.
