FIRST AID/SICK BAY

Here at the College we provide immediate first aid treatment for students in the case of accident or illness. However, we have limited resources and as such do not have the facilities to care for students for extended periods of time. If the ailment requires medical attention appropriate treatment should be sought from a health professional.

With this in mind, it is extremely important that we have current contact details for parents and guardians.

It is also very important that you provide the school with a number of emergency contacts in case you are unavailable or the school cannot reach you if your child becomes ill or is injured.

Parents and carers who collect their child from school for any reason (other than an emergency) must sign the child out of the school in the register located at the Main Office.

Health & COVID 19

It is important that students who feel unwell with cold or flu like symptoms stay at home to recover and seek medical advice.

If your child becomes unwell at school with any of the following symptoms: Fever, coughing, sore throat, sneezing, runny nose or shortness of breath they MUST report to sickbay at the main office.

Parents or Guardians will be contacted and asked to collect their child as soon as possible, return home and seek advice from a health professional.

Students should not to return to school until their symptoms are resolved.

ASTHMA

If your Child has been diagnosed with Asthma we ask that you provide a copy of your child’s Asthma Action Plan to the school.

We have emergency asthma first aid medication to be used as a backup for when students may not have their own puffer and spacer with them at the time, but ask that Parents/Guardians ensure their children have adequate supplies of reliever/puffer  medication (including a spacer) for use at school.

Victorian Chief Health Officer message to schools, early childhood centres and their communities

The Department of Health is doing everything it can to prevent spreading in the community through locating close contacts, continued testing and wastewater monitoring.

Early childhood centres and schools have comprehensive COVIDSafe plans in place. This means that schools and centres have embedded the behaviour's we learned in 2020 and are well placed to act quickly and respond to any identified risks.

I am confident this is reassuring to families, children and staff.

However, the importance of all Victorians remaining vigilant cannot be stressed enough.

It is vital that we all continue to stay home when unwell, get tested, perform regular hand hygiene, and cough into your elbow if you have to.  I remind all staff, students, parents and families to wear a face mask when required and stay at least 1.5m apart from others when practical.

I also encourage you to promote and ensure testing whenever a child or staff member has any symptoms, no matter how mild. Getting tested and staying home until results are known remains critical to limiting the spread of COVID-19.

It is also important to get tested when it is recommended, for example, if you have visited an exposure site.

  • The symptoms to watch out for are:
  • loss or change in sense of smell or taste
  • fever
  • chills or sweats
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • shortness of breath
  • runny nose.

Continued vigilance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 ensures that schools and early childhood education centres remain safe for students and staff.
