Meet our College Captains

2021

Hayley Burd, Arts Captain Cranbourne Campus

What do you see as your role as a leader?

The Arts is an undercover department, the secret society, the crazy kids, me being one of those kids for the majority of my life. I see my role as being the action alongside, with the get done attitude, helping to promote and include new people in the arts community.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

Being a student at St. Peter’s College has helped me to fully realise my potential and find what I love to do. Having the choice of doing all these different classes and having many different opportunities has helped me realise my passion. Not to mention all the appreciation and support from the staff members.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

My sister, Alex. For years she has been present at every dance concert, musical, singing concert, competition and many other things. She has been my number one supporter since day one, and I can't thank her enough.

What are your goals as College Captain in 2021?

In the Arts community, my goal is to create a fun and uplifting environment for all the students, especially as we weren't able to achieve the goals set last year in 2020. I want to include as many ideas and skills from the students as possible so that we can include and invite as many new people to our beautiful art community as possible.

2021 College Theme

“I can do this through Christ, who gives me strength”. Philippians 4:13

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

Completing this year, with all my studies, and my leadership role, this statement helps me to reflect on the process I have taken and how I can achieve what's to come. It also helps me to never forget that I have the constant support from my family, my friends, and the teachers of St. Peter’s College.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would  like to say to your fellow students?

Try something different, because it might be the next thing you love.

What do you see as your role as a leader?

Leadership as a whole has a few different meanings depending on the individual you ask. To me it means that you help those around you by building up both their confidence as well as my own. Great leaders have a way of supporting others and making them both productive and effective. For me, my role as a leader will always be to create a more common goal and build an environment in which we can all thrive in and pursue that common goal while also encouraging those students with a quiet voice and making It loud.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

One of the things that makes St. Peter’s College a place to thrive is the sense of community, diversity and dedication shown not only between the students but also all the teachers and staff. The way each individual at this College, whether it be a Year 7 student, Year 12 student or even the Teachers, everyone has a story and a purpose, we all have different nationalities, different cultures and traditions but one thing I think this school prides itself on is the way we combine all our differences and similarities to create one big family that is always there in times of hardship and times of joy.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

Honestly, it is very difficult for me to just pick one person I admire, as there are so many important people in my life who have all guided, encouraged and supported me throughout my decisions through life. However, if I were to narrow it down, and I know this is not one person, I would have to say my parents. They truly are my rock, and I can turn to them with any problem I have, and they will be right there each and every time to help me through the rough and stressful times. They both have always supported me to pursue a life that will make and that already makes me happy. Without their guidance, unconditional love, support, and brutal honesty, I do not know where I would be and If I would be in the position, I am today and for that I am eternally grateful.

What are your goals as College Captain in 2021?

My goal as Art’s College Captain is to aim to help those students who are more reserved become comfortable in their environments, aiming to help them express their emotions through any artistic manner, whether it be painting, drawing, music or dance while also just being there for anyone who needs, I’m a great listener and someone who is always willing to help is some way shape or form, even if its guiding someone with directions, I’m always there.

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

Through leadership there are always going to be times of struggle and difficulties, with our College theme for this year of “I can do this through Christ, who gives me strength”, it almost acts as a mantra for persistence and patience through tough times guiding and reminding me to always have faith and believe that everything happens for a reason as well as to always aim to perform at my best not only for myself but also for our school community.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would like to say to your fellow students?

One piece of advice I would give to my peers is to try and participate in anything and everything when it comes to school events, they truly help create some of the best high school memories especially if you do them with your friends.
