Ignatius House News

Mr Terry Quain

Ignatius House has started 2021 with some great success in key areas across the College. At this stage, our Seniors have stepped up as leaders and mentors in each Pastoral Group and our Year 7’s have started to settle into a place they’ll call home away from home each morning for the next 6 years! Before they joined PG, the Year 7’s trip to Camp Maranatha early in the term helped the nerves of entering high school slip away. The success of the camp came in a large part from the vital assistance of Mr Priddis and our Year 11 Leaders Angus Fraser and Tomas Ruiz. Now with the first term of high school under their belts, the youngest members of Ignatius House will look to launch their academic, cultural, sporting, spiritual and social pursuits from foundations as strong as the might Kauri Pine!

It’s been a landmark term for our seniors as well who took up figurative and literal badges of leaderships at Inaugural Mass and then, a few weeks later, dressed to impress at the Senior Formal at City Hall. Just to add to these major life events for these men of Marist, Unit 3 also draws to a close as they look towards their final hurdles of secondary education.

In inter-house challenges, the other seven Houses are on notice that Ignatius is not just here to make up the numbers! Led by a stellar performance by the Year 7 and 12 teams, a strong second-place finish overall in the College Swimming Carnival signified our intent. After breezing through the preliminary rounds of Theatresports, we came head-to-head with Gilroy in the final: not even the judges could split the teams after a clutch performance by Ignatius Cultural Captain Jack Condon who ended up performing a final scene solo! (Just don’t tell Gilroy where we’ve stashed the trophy!)

Mr Cullen & the Ignatius Year 8 students braved the raging weather to summit Mt Coot-tha in the Pastoral Day, Kokoda Challenge. The boys were provided with activities centred on personal development, team building and leadership, and took the time to reflect on personal sacrifice for the greater good. The boys responded with courage and determination to the conditions and scenarios they encountered along the way.

Best wishes for a safe and rejuvenating break at this most blessed and special time of year.
