Ridley House News

Mr David Meehan

Term1 has rapidly come to an end and the Easter holidays will give us a chance to draw breath after what has been an action-packed start to the year. So, what’s been happening:

the Seniors have of course had their inauguration as College leaders at the Inaugural Mass. We also congratulate, from Ridley House, Ziggy Day (College Vice-Captain Academic), and House Leaders; Jamie Bowden (Academic), Dylan Treston (Mission), Reilly Culic (Culture) & Fergal Apps (sport).

We welcomed our Year 7’s who have already had an action-packed three-day camp at Camp Maranatha on the Sunshine Coast, where they were well supported by Year 11 students; Tom Dempsey and Pat Tierney. The Year 7’s were then moved into their Pastoral Groups and made welcome by their Pastoral Teacher and the entire Pastoral Group.

The Inter-house swimming was run and won again by Ridley House. Unfortunately, our very powerful Year 9 and 10 groups had their carnival cancelled due to bad weather.

The Year 12’s put together an enthusiastic Theatre Sports team for the inter-house challenge. The team consisting of Fergal Apps, Cooper Thomas, Ziggy Day, Lochie Dudgeon, Dylan Treston and Hugh Gibson, were narrowly beaten in the semi-final.

The Year 12’s were again the centre of attention at the recent Senior Formal, held this year at the Brisbane City Hall. Apart from the fashions, our boys can be congratulated on their behaviour and the courteous manner they showed toward their partners.

And most recently the Year 8’s were involved in a Pastoral Day at Mt Coo-tha. Mr Doug Perrers made the comment that the boys were asked to: Step up – be the one to organise and speak up, Step in – help the team and Step back – let others be involved and support them. By all reports, they achieved this admirably.

I wish all families a safe and happy Easter. I hope it is a time of renewal, spiritually and physically. We look forward to another busy term after the break.
