Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

We began our year together embracing the theme Breathe: The Spirit of Life. One Term down our journey together and this theme is more relevant than ever as we negotiate the ever changing COVID-19 situation and online learning.

Thank you to all the parents for your support in assisting your sons in accessing these online learning opportunities. Yesterday I spoke to the boys about the importance of them using their school-owned devices for learning purposes only and your support with this is very much appreciated. Each of the boys has signed the ICT Use Agreement and it is important that they adhere to this.

As we journey through Holy Week, united in faith, May Christ’s glory and the promise of this joyous time of the year bring peace and happiness to you and those you hold most dear.

Primary Swimming Carnival

We were blessed with perfect weather last Friday for our Primary Swimming Carnival. I was extremely impressed with the boys and their participation and team spirit throughout the day. Congratulations to Blue house who were the winning team on the day. Of course, the day would not have been possible without the organization of John Lambourne (Head of Primary Sport) and all our wonderful staff who ran each event and activity.

Year 5 Musical

Congratulations to all Year 5 students and the Music department for a fantastic performance of ‘Dig It’ last week. The students performed two shows in what, for many of them, was their big stage debut.

Easter Raffle

Thanks again to all families for their generous donations to our Easter Raffle. We are still in the process of calculating the proceeds of this fundraiser. The raffle was drawn yesterday afternoon and there were some very happy winners who will have enough chocolate to last them the lockdown.

End of Term Assembly

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 situation, we have had to postpone this Thursday’s assembly. We will ensure that we find another time early next term to acknowledge our Primary Student Leaders, Love of Work and Men of Courage Award recipients.

Year 6 Emu Gully Excursion

To complement their work in leadership and the Men of Courage Program, Year 6 students will be participating in a full-day excursion to Emu Gully on Friday 30 April (Term 2, Week 2). Please accept your son’s participation in this excursion through Parent Lounge.

Sport Update

Primary Swimming Carnival

The sensory overload was in overdrive as the noise and Marist spirit shone through to support housemates and friends. Congratulations to all the boys who competed, joined in, cheered, supported and contributed to a great day. Congratulations to Blue who won on the day.

Spectacular weather was provided for our Primary Swimming Carnival. Participation and enjoyment were the focus for the day, with all the boys getting involved and doing their best to earn points for their respective colour teams. Blue ran away with the carnival, in the end, but credit must go to all of the primary boys for the way in which they approached the day.

Special thanks to all the Primary staff, for without their assistance a day like this is not possible. Thank you also to parents for encouraging each of your boys to approach the day in the right spirit.

Student Responsibilities to College Sport

I have received a number of parent enquiries regarding the College’s position in regards to representing the College versus club. The following is taken directly from the MCA Enrolment Agreement, and clearly states that the boys are expected to commit to College Sport ahead of any external sport providers;

…co-curricular participation is required as part of the life of the College and integral to the growth and development of each student. Participation by all, according to the relative abilities of each student is mandatory. If a student has the ability in a co-curricular activity that is offered at the College, he would be expected to contribute by representing the College. This representation takes precedence over fixtures offered by outside organisations.

I thank you for your support and assistance in this matter.
