Freeman

Introduction

Term 2 has started in an exciting fashion with a number of school events occurring in the first half of this term. The school held its Open Afternoon which saw a number of Freeman students assist with tours and discussions with families while demonstrating our school value of Citizenship. We sent our Year 8’s on camp at Lake Dewar, held a Medieval Day and Languages Day for the Year 8 cohort and the school has hosted a number of excursions. It has been fantastic to see students engaging with the school activities and building on the sense of belonging and connectedness to the school and we hope this trend continues.

Year 8 Camp

On Monday 9 May, 105 Year 8 students from Hollows and Freeman set off to Lake Dewar camp in Myrniong for three days of activities. The students engaged in a number of exciting outdoor activities including a flying fox, stand up paddle-boarding and mountain biking. All students were well behaved and respectful to all camp and teaching staff. A special thanks to Ms Rebecca Bianco for organising the camp, Mrs Laura Brock for leading the camp and the following Freeman staff who attended over the two nights: Mr Tom Pearson, Mr Matt Zaccaria, Ms Emma Wilkins and Mrs Georgia Pashias.

Student experience

Lake Dewar Lodge was a fantastic camp, close to the beautiful Werribee River and Werribee Gorge. I had a fun stay at Lake Dewar and had heaps of fun doing a wide range of interesting activities. My favourite activities were the Dual Flying Fox, which had two zip-lines allowing you to fly over the Werribee Gorge alongside a mate, and the canoeing, where you paddled up Lake Dewar to the jetty and jumped off it (if you had the nerve!). Overall, I had a great time and would definitely go back if I had the chance.  - Sidney Ng

This year we got the chance to go to Lake Dewar Lodge where we got to stay at a beautiful camp right on the lake. We got got to participate in so many fun filled activities like the amazing race and adventure tunnelling. My personal favourite activity was the challenging stand up paddle boarding. And to top it off the food also did not disappoint! I can definitely say we all made some incredible memories and had the best time participating in all these wonderful activities and hanging out with friends as well as making heaps of new ones. – Ruby Young

House Competitions

On the final day of Term 1, we ventured out to Bill Stewart Athletics Track for the House Athletics Carnival. It was a sunny day with plenty of engagement and dress-ups. Freeman had fantastic representation in all events but could not overcome the Melba juggernaut. Congratulations to Mr. Ferres and Melba House for their dominance on the track.

Swimming Age Groups Champions

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded Age Group Champions in the House Swimming Competition:

  • Olivia Roche – Age Group and Senior Diving Champion
  • Hugo Dykes – Age Group Champion
  • Jessica Baird – Age Group Champion
