Deputy Principals' Reports
Mrs Kerry Doyle
Deputy Principal - Year 8, 10 and 12
Thank you to all of the community members who have supported our students throughout the term through isolation, covid and blended learning. We understand there has been a great deal of disruption to classes. However, there has also been staff on every class and learning uploaded to Google Classrooms which has meant accessing learning from home has been simplified when possible for students.
YONDR pouches have seen staff focus on teaching, the removal of conflict over phones has meant that our staff are now preparing longer lessons with students requiring an additional 10 minutes of learning materials provided each lesson as now our focus is on learning. It has also meant a significant decrease in negative referrals relating to social media issues and it has been wonderful to hear the playground full of chatter and students playing games on the courts which is wonderful to see.
The Year 12 Half Yearly examinations went ahead, whilst some students have been impacted by Covid, the majority got through these and have taken the opportunity to have their first formal examinations in 2 years. This opportunity will assist in HSC preparations in sitting formal examinations and understanding the layout of papers and examination rules.
Year 10 has started their subject selection process for 2023 & 2024. It is our first year to go through the HSC compressed curriculum style and it will be a wonderful opportunity to host the subject selection evening early in Term 2 and discuss the changes again with students and the community.
Year 8 has spent this week completing their check in assessments, these allow staff to identify areas for support and will be used to identify students who require further support from the Covid literacy & numeracy tutoring. Year 8 has been much more settled this year which is great to see! We will continue to review classes and student placements as required.
Finally, as winter nears, please ensure that you have your uniform needs in place, either by ordering online and collecting or popping into the uniform shop on a Tuesday or Thursday morning from 8am-9:30am. Black leather shoes are our school uniform footwear, this is to ensure students are safe in practical classrooms. In addition, students should not be wearing hoodies and non-uniform jumpers under their jackets.
Thank you for all of the support throughout this very busy term, we look forward to a more settled Term 2 and please remember that there will be examinations in this term.
